Hey there gals~

I was just wondering if anyone knows how long it takes on average to receive your magazine if you are a subscriber? It seems as though several of you have already gotten yours. I am still patiently waiting for mine to arrive.

I subscribed right away in when I saw the new issue advertised on the website, didn't get my first issue till almost the end of June, then the July one came right on time. Maybe it's the first issue that takes a while, I ended up buying one because I couldn't wait

Hi everyone. I am Betty Weeks from Cincinnati and haven't written anything for quite awhile. I have been viewing, buying the products which I love, the books and subcribe to the magazine. I love everything Mary Jane has done and offers. I have been in hibernation so to speak because of time, but this magazine delivery problem has brought me out.

I have owned a mailing/fulfillment business for 15 years and know the mail business very well. I too received my magazine later than I should have. I live in a metropolitan area (which gets good mail delivery) and my postal branch knows better than to sit on my mail.

I'm not going to place blame on anyone in particular, but here are some things to consider. 1) If the magazines are mailed at the same time, all should be received within 2 to 3 days of the first one received. The postal service is very automated and moves mail very well. Unfortunately, because of slow systems in the past, they are an easy mark for blame. 2) The postal service is required by Federal Law to deliver this type mail within 10 days of receipt at the postal facility. 3) A way to verify the mailing is to request a copy of the postal weigher's statement from the one who does the mailing. This is a statement that gives you date of mailing (will be stamped with a clerk's initials), the number of pieces mailed, the amount of postage, and where it was mailed from. (It appears the magazine is being mailed from New Jersey. Automated mailings from New Jersey to Cincinnati usually get to me in a couple of days.

Some other things to consider. 1)The magazines might not all be printed at the same time and might not be available for mailing. 2) The mail list of subscribers might not be completed or all in one file. For everyone who received the first issue, the file should have been complete for the second issue. 3) Sometimes, in order to take advantage of extra postal discounts, large mailers will hold mail, say mail going to Cincinnati, until they have enough to send a truck to the Cincinnati postal facility. If they do this, they receive a large enough discount to pay for the truck and make a profit. (The postal service offers extra discounts to any mailer who delivers their mail to certain facilities.)

Don't know what the publisher's answer is in all situations, but if all the magazines are mailed at the same time, there should not be a large number of days in between deliveries. The postal service has tracking services available and you can always find out the reason for slow delivery.

OK, I'm off the mail soap box. Thanks.

Betty

Christina how long did it take you to hear back from customer service? I emailed last week and still haven't heard anything. I checked the bank and my check for my subscription cleared in early July.

It took about almost 2 days. Did you contact them through the website. Here is the link that I used!
https://secure.palmcoastd.com/pcd/eServ?iServ=MDEwMDI1MDI1MQ==
I had originally signed up online so I was able to check the status by entering in my e-mail and zip code. Then I clicked on the "other" tab at the bottom to send them an e-mail to let them know what was going on. You could always just send out a quick e-mail to Tanja though. Her information is listed above.

Hello all,

Greg here, from the Publisher’s office. I’d like to respond to Betty’s post.

First, your overall answer is correct i.e. once the first copy of a magazine is received, all other copies of the magazine in that particular mailing (more on that later) should be received within a few days. And the Post Office does a great job moving TONS of mail, very quickly. But like all large operations, things do fall through the cracks.

Let me now clarify a few items.

MJF mails at Periodicals Postage Rates. This class of mail is reserved for Periodicals (magazines, newspapers, newsletters) and receives First Class Mail treatment in the mail system. The Post Office (and Federal Law) makes no guarantees on delivery time for Periodicals Mail. But, once mailed, it should take no more than a week or 10 days for the magazine to arrive. Note that Periodicals Mail does not offer a delivery tracking service.

MJF mails from Pontiac IL.

In the future, as the magazine grows, MJF will take advantage of some efficiencies and, as you mention, truck copies to various postal facilities, depositing the copies into the mail at these regional sortation centers. Our experience with our other magazines is that this speeds up the process by a day or two. Note that we do not, nor will we, hold copies in order to “fill trucks”.

We print MJF all at once. Most copies (80% or more) mail in the same, initial batch. Over the course of the next two months, the remaining copies mail each week. These supplemental mailings contain new subscribers who’ve come on board since the initial batch mailed, reinstated subscribers who either let their subscription expire or were not paid in full at the time the initial batch mailed etc.

If you are due to receive your second issue i.e. the most recent issue was your first, your mailing label should be in the initial batch IF your subscription is paid in full. If you elected to be billed later for your subscription, we will mail you one issue “on credit” but will not mail subsequent copies until you are paid.

Thank you for contributing to this topic and weighing in on the matter. One other thing I’ve learned when dealing with the Post Office is that you very often get different answers from different people. So the above is based on my experience in a CT-based publishing office. It does not surprise me at all that Cincinnati-based business would have some different answers to the same questions. It’s all part of the fun of dealing with the Post Office!

Greg

PS I am working on an FAQ post to help everyone with magazine customer service issues. I hope the post will give you sense of when the best solution is "give it a few more days" or and you should call or email us because something is really out-of-whack. Stay tuned.

Thanks, Greg, for your response. I guess you can see how serious we are about this magazine. I subscribe to 5 other magazines and "Mary Janes Farm" is the only one that I know when I should get it. If I miss copies of the others or if they are late, I really wouldn't know it.

I did receive the free copy, and I did receive the first issue (subscription was paid for before receiving the first issue), so I didn't see why the the first person got her magazine on July 7th and I didn't get mine until July 21st. Also, the mailing label appeared to be a standard mailing.

Relative to tracking, when I have delayed mailings, I call BMC's, SCF's, and postal branches, as I have learned as you have, that everyone will tell you something different.

Thanks for fielding the questions and doing all you can to get us our magazines.

Betty

I still haven't received my MJF magazine subscription. I sent an email request to Tanja yesterday for the status on my subscription, but have not yet received a response. I ended up purchasing a copy of the newest MJF at my local Borders bookstore last week.

Greg thanks for getting my subscription taken care of so promptly. I received my missing copies of MJF this weekend. Of course I had already gone out to Borders and purchased them. Oh well! I am starting a new farmgirl chapter in my area so I guess i will have a drawing for my extra copies.

Thanks again!

Christina in Nebraska,
I am patiently awaiting for my subscription to start. I was told toward the end of July that I had to wait 2-3 weeks and next week is my third week. I want to read the magazine as I have already picked it up at the grocery store--I'm waiting for my subscription to start and what I saw at the store was exciting.

Hi Betty in Pasco!

Unfortunately it does usually take the three weeks to get your first magazine. At least it did for me, once I got things straightened out. I think we just have to bear with them. The magazine is still published on a smaller scale than say People or Country Living. Once I got confirmation from the company I did receive mine in the amount of time they said. Of course I am very impatient and had already gone out and purchased my own copy.

Please be patient. The issues are all so beautifully put together and filled with a wealth of knowledge. Plus patterns this time!! The pages are also thick enough that you can easily read it over and over without much wear. Which I really appreciated when I ordered some back issues from the website. They were still in perfect condition as though they had just been printed for me! You can tell how much love has gone into each article no matter how big or small. I think of the gals at the farm as extended family and like my own I just have to wait a little longer sometimes. Sometimes they have to wait a bit longer as well!

Betty,

I'm looking into your question. Can you email me your address so I can be sure our records are accurate.

Thanks.

Copies of the magazine are actually printed and mailed out of Illinois. Order processing is handled in Florida.

Refer to the MaryJanesFarm Magazine FAQs post for details on how long a copy should take to arrive etc. Hopefully you'll find your answer there.
