Oh my goodness, it is that time. This Friday and Saturday is my 10 year reunion and it is feeling a bit surreal. Do I even want to go? Will I get those icky stomach feelings like "do I fit in", "am I cool enough", "am I the fat girl now"? I know, I know, it shouldn't matter, but it really does. So, I am looking for pointers, funny stories, horror stories, etc from your reunions!

Heather, I'm attending my 30th reunion in 2 weeks and I went to my 20th but missed my 10th. I think I know exactly how you might be feeling...if I remember back that far! Here's something to look forward to...at your 30th reunion, you're not going to give a rip about all of those concerns you are having for your 10th.
I found the nice people I liked in HS were still pleasant and friendly, the not so nice snotty girls were still arrogant and all married to doctors (no kidding!) and I didn't even speak to them...I am not in any way superficial and I didn't want to waste my time talking to them so didn't! LOL. Do I care about their lives now? Not really. Sorry, but it's true.
My true friends were a hoot to see especially with kids in tow and it was a good experience to see them. Of course we promised to keep in touch after that and we haven't...you know we have all have jobs and families, just can't fit everything in. But I am looking forward to seeing everyone. One thing, I don't feel "pressure" to attend every function at the reunion. If I'm having fun, going to go to it all and if not, going to find something else to do that is.

Juliet, as much as high school was a somewhat difficult experience for me for many reasons, I've gone to both my 10 and 20 (!) year reunions and was glad that I did. I graduated with a fairly large class (over 400) and I'd say a good half of them showed up for the 10-year, so there were too many people there to get all caught up in the old "nonsense." The funny thing about that reunion is that for the first part, everyone was really chatty and friendly and interested/ing, and then when it came time to sit down to eat (it was a buffet-style picnic), looking around at the picnic tables was like looking around at the ol' high school cafeteria - everyone ended up back with their old cliques, which to me was funnier than anything!  [One thing I noticed at my 20-year reunion last summer was that the women all looked great, while many of the guys were less recognizable (receding hairlines, weight, etc.)]
If you decide to go, just remember that as long as you're happy with yourself and where you are in life, that's what will come across in your interactions with others! (and remember, most everyone there will be feeling apprehensive at first!)

I DO have a funny high school reunion story. Actually, more than one but this one will do. At my 20 year reunion which was...a while ago.....I had been married to my current husband for 2 years. He is 12 years younger than I am. The first night of the reunion is usually a meet-and-greet kinda thing at a local bar. Keep in mind that he also went clear through school and graduated from the same high school....just quite a few years later. The women in my class wouldn't leave him alone. One of my best friends (who knew him) told me repeatedly how good-looking he was. And two others told him that they had had him in Kindergarten when they were aids....and it was true. It was all a little overwhelming for him.They were SO friendly that he wouldn't go to the dinner the next night. He went to his brother's and sent me to the reunion dinner with my friends. He did tell me to have a good time. He's never been to a class reunion with me since. When I showed up to dinner that night without him, ten women asked me where he was.

That is so funny Marcia!!! I am going to go tonight, it is a bbq and is pretty relaxed. I figure that if I get bored, I can always use my 3 kids as an excuse to go watch them play or go home for bed! LOL. Tomorrow night is an adult only banquet, so I am taking a friend with me who went all through school with us until she was a sophomore, so she'll be happy to see everyone too!

Heather, have fun! You'll be surprised--I did attend mine, but I went to a private, performing arts school in Michigan, so we were always a little "different" and because it was a boarding school, we were probably "closer" than most high school classes. The reunion was in Michigan, so it was a three day weekend event, and we are all so far-flung across the world (literally) that it was really wonderful to see the people who made it, and to hear stories about the folks who were unable to (what they're doing, where they're conducting an orchestra, whatever)...I was recently divorced when I attended, and had that stigma (on my own) but we are all so liberal that most people said, "sorry about that, but you look hot and he must be a loser!" So it was good for the ego :)
The only thing that I wasn't sooo crazy about was how many folks used it as an excuse to hook up. I've heard that it happens at reunions--rekindling affections that you had as a teen or whatever, or taking that chance that you were too afraid to take back then, but I felt like (at our reunion) it was almost like "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas."
I didn't go back for the recent one :)

Heather I didn't go to my 10yr as I was HUGE with my first child and due anytime. But my 20yr is next weekend Iam soo excited to go and see everyone. I found alot of them on facebook and we have been chatting for awhile now. Anyways just have fun and be yourselef.:)

At our 10 year reunion my girlfriend, Carla, and I took this guy we'd just met. We acted like he'd graduated with us and he went along with it. People would say "Oh yeah! I remember you." It was a scream.

Oh I can't wait to hear about your reunion. Our 10 year is in September and I can't wait. I've seen several of them over the years, but it will be neat to see them after 10 years.

Ok, well I did go, despite the butterflies and I am so glad that I did! Not a whole lot of people showed up, but those who did set aside all the old groups and actually talked as adults that we all thought we were in high school! LOL... I am glad that I went and will definately go to out 20th in 10 years!
