...of the power of home furnishings and decor!! I put up a set of curtains tonight on a bare window, and it immediately transformed the atmosphere of the room from 'new house, bare living room, NOT home', to cozy, inviting, homey. I am going on a curtain spree this week...my $10 Singer shall come in handy, me thinks.

What are your favorite items of home decor...what 'does' it for you? I think curtains and lighting are probably at the top of my list. Lighting can set the mood of a room, all by itself!!

Rugs! I'm always amazed at how different a room looks when you put a rug on the floor. It makes the room seem cozy I guess. Rugs remind me of one of my grandma's housekeeping tips. She said that if you straighten the fringe on a rug, the whole room will instantly look clean. It actually works, kind of a psychological trick, I guess.

Have fun making the curtains, sounds like you are on a mission.

I'd like to see your new curtains, too. Post pictures, please.

Houseplants do it for me. A room seems totally bare and lifeless without them.

I like comfy things- a down comforter, an overstuffed chair- with me it is about texture and color as I don't have a lot of "things" to decorate with. I also LOVE all of my photographs. I like to blow them up in black and white and pop them into colored frames.

Jodi- You are so right! I love how a few homey touches can really bring a room together. Curtains are amazing and depending on the fabric, room, and style- they can be huge statements! I was just looking at my stash of fabrics today thinking what I wanted to do for my kitchen window. It looks out onto my walled in back porch which is my laundry room which then looks out into the back yard. Since there is another rental about 10 feet behind us, would be nice to make it a little more private and to make the kitchen a more welcoming place. Good thing I bought some beautiful fabric from the $2 a yard table!!!!

I love handmade primitives.... just the thought that someone took their time to make something so beautiful. I am in the midst of remodeling our spare bedroom into my crafting/primitive room, but still waiting to find the perfect curtains as they surely do make the room come alive!

I am amazed at how paint color can complete change the feel of a room, and it is relatively cheap to do.

We are moving into a house next month. We went to see it last month and the owners are still living there. It was a mess and not decorated at all.. It looked like a flop house.. It will look amazingly different when I am done. No more empty walls..
I couldn't imagine living in a house that didn't have a touch of warmth to it.. The house the owners are moving to is a dual zoned home- part commercial part residential- there are like 10 rooms, a board room, men and womens bath, and a kitchen that is in the hallway.. It is so barren and commercial.. I can't imagine living like that..

Blessings, Debra
