I made biscotti for the first time using this recipe... http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/whole-wheat-walnut-raisin-biscotti?autonomy_kw=biscotti&rsc=header_14

subbed the raisins w/ chopped chocolate chips and they're divine. I have a hard time finding good baking recipes because I grind my flour fresh, but this one worked great with fresh ground white pastry flour (soft white berries). Can't wait to share it w/ my gals tomorrow when they come for a little sewing lesson!

I made pizza on the grill for the first time. Ir was so hot tonight I didn't want to heat up the oven.

I used a Pillsbury dough (cheating, I know), spread it with olive oil, and put it right on the grill. Turned it over after about 10 minutes, and put the toppings on while it was still on the grill.

I burnt the back side just a little (chalk it up to inexperience)

It was just me tonight, DH is on a trip, so I put on all the stuff he doesn't like - green olives, anchovies, and basil pesto.

It was a little salty, but delish! Had a glass of wine with it and didn't even notice the burnt spots too much!

I made this from scratch today- a baked mix of sweet potatoes and beetroot- with maple syrup and curry and pumpkin pie spice. Some sea salt and rosemary twigs- baked for half an hour. Lovely. Served it with some sour cream.

Green smoothies are not new to us but I added 4 cups of pureed sweet potato and a can of garbanzo beans to it- that is new to us. It was very filling and good. Adding cooked beans to the smoothies adds enough protein that my hubby's hypoglycemia stabilizes. I had the sweet potato in the fridge and didn't feel like making pancakes. This was enough smoothies for 8 people- several of us drinking a qt. I sent a qt with hubby to work and have a couple of qts left. yum!

Blessings, Debra

I made a new blueberry scone yesterday that was a ton of work, but delicious! Also made a new skillet chicken & potato dish, Eggplant Korhesh (Persian stew), and tonight I'm trying a new Tex-Mex Chicken Cobbler recipe for dinner. I rarely make the same thing twice, I love to experiment and use new recipes, or make it up as I go.

OH, and I made fig preserves for the first time! I KNEW there was something else!

There's something very great about making things like this, and knowing _I_ made it! Like canning fig preserves you made... !

I tried an orange ginger sesame stir fry recipe to use up some leftover grilled pork chops. Served over brown rice, it was terrific! Even dh, who isn't generally a fan of stir frys, like it.

I made a great zucchini dish in the crockpot for a pot luck we went to. Came home with an empty crockpot, so I guessed everybody else liked it too!

I made eggplant parmigiana (sp?) this week for the first time with some of the oodles of eggplant that keep popping up in the garden. I actually couldn't believe it, but my super picky kids loved it too! Who knew?

Last night I grilled pizza for the first time! I usually grill all the toppings (Italian sausage, green peppers, red onions & tomatoes), but this was the first time I grilled the crust too. To my surprise the whole thing came out perfect! I also grilled peaches and red plums for dessert. They were delicious too. I got my moneys worth out of my charbon hardwood last night. The best part was not having to turn the oven on & heating up the kitchen!

I devised a recipe for Ro-Tel type tomatoes and canned them. They turned out fairly good, but for my family, they're a little mild. Next time, I'm gonna add more jalapenos!

Not new this week, but a few weeks ago a friend gave me her broccoli salad recipe and boy are we hooked. It's broc florets, crumbled bacon, raisins, red onion and I added chopped pecans. The sauce is mayo, sugar and a liitle vinegar. OMG was it good and good for you. Perfect for a hot night.
