I am really not a Summer person......But I Soooooo Enjoy Autumn and Spring!!!........my First choice is definately Autumn! Where I live, Autumn is the most Beautiful time of year! I love the chill in the air......the smell of chiles roasting at the different grocery stores and Farmers Markets around town.......The Balloon Fiesta is in the Autumn and I love looking up in the sky all month and seeing the Beautiful Hot air Balloons!!!.....I love making Homemade Soups and Homemade Bread in the Autumn........It is great fun going to our friends who have a beautiful organic farm and have a Harvest Festival every year!!!....I LOVE pumpkins and gourds!!!!......We entertain more in the Autumn. I enjoy entertaining friends anytime but Autumn is definately my favorite time to entertain....We have an annual Autumn Party at our house!
Friends always tell me that I am really an "Autumn Person". Might be that my hair is red and it sort of fits with Autumn ;)!!
Soooo What is your favorite Season and Why??

I will post my Pasole Recipe this evening .......it is a special Chili that is a New Mexico Tradition in the Autumn and in the Winter!!!

I think I like each season, certain things about each of them.
I love in Autumn when the crisp comes into the air, and getting to kick the leaves.
Winter, the quiet of the snowfalling for the first time that season.
Spring, seeing the new bloosums, smelling the earth waking up.
Summer, the crickets singing, the smell of the honeysuckles in bloom, sitting out in the later evening cooling off.
Yep, a 4 season girl here.....

hey gurlfren .. yep! autumn is my mos' fav .. followed VERY closely by spring! i love the 'crisp crackle' in the air .. crunchy fallen leaves and playing in them with the grands! .. taking long walks in the forest .. and this is the best time of the year i think to cook in the firepit outside! my fav time to 'camp' too!
now my fav thing about THIS COMING autumn is hopefully seeing you here at Freedom Valley!!!

Yeah I have to say Autumn is my most favorite season. I love the colors. Raking big piles of leaves and letting the kids crash em. The smell of the air as different ones around me start to fire up their wood burners.

Yep Im right there with you in the seasons all the way to the red hair, just dont live Mexico, but Meansville doesnt sound to different. I love the cool crisp smells, sounds, shoot I just love Autumn. Karen

Audrey!!!! I love Autumn in New Mexico!! My Grandma lived in Espanola and my Uncle lives Albuquerque. As a kid, we would go visit at Thanksgiving, and that smell of chiles is awesome. And I may be crazy, but in Santa Fe there is a donut shop (I can't remember the name!!!) but they make the BEST glazed donuts. Can't wait for that recipe...I might not even wait until Autumn to make it  !

There is no time like Fall here in Kentucky and down in Tennessee. The weather is "just right" and the colors on the trees are just too beautiful. It is my favorite time to photograph folks as well. I can smell the fresh pies coming out of the oven, the chill of an early fall, and hear the kids with excitement as school has begun.
Winter - ack, I hate the cold weather. Summer time - it is so darn humid in Kentucky you can't hardly do anything outside without sweating like a hog. Spring time - we still get snow up until about May or so, so spring is still pretty cold for us, but the flowers are beautiful.
Give me Autumn any ole day!

....a little background on Posole....it is a Feast Day favorite among the Pueblo Indians who live in the Rio Grande Valley. It is a favorite tradition of New Mexicans in the Autumn and Winter. This particular recipe was given to my Dear Mother when I was a little girl by one of her Best Friends who was Native American.
The recipe is delicious with or without the meat. My Mother always made it without meat and for our Autumn Party I serve it without meat as we have several friends who are vegetarian and several friends who do not eat pork. Either way, I hope you enjoy it!
POSOLE
Ingredients:
2-3 lbs. boned pork shoulder, cut in 3/4" cubes
1-2 lbs. posole corn washed well or 2 (1 lb) cans white hominy, drained and rinsed well.
1-2 cans whole green chilies, drained and cut in long strips (use Mild or Hot depending on your taste).
1-2 Tablespoons red chile powder
1 teaspoon salt (or more as needed to taste)
1/4 teaspoon cracked black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic & herb seasoning
3/4 large fresh garlic cloves peeled and diced or sliced
2 medium onions coarsely chopped or sliced
1 teaspoon oregano leaves
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/2 teaspoon cumin
4 Tablespoons (Approximately) canola or vegetable oil
6 cups (Approximately) water
Brown the meat in the oil. Add the sliced or diced onions to the meat and saute until golden brown.
Place the drained corn or hominy to the water in a large heavy pot. Add all of the other ingredients and seasonings and bring to a boil. Turn the heat down and if using Posole Corn, cook about 3-4 hours ---- less time is needed if using hominy. Check to be sure the liquid does not boil away and add more water as needed.

Carol Sue.....although I am not REALLY a summer person, I do love having 4 seasons....just that summers aren't as appealing as they used to be to me....I have lived in areas where it seemed there was only two seasons and I did soooooo miss the "changes"!!!

Oh Frannie!!! I do so hope things will be aligned and I will be able to make it to visit in the Autumn!!! Would love to visit with you again!! I will be anxiously awaiting to see the dates that you come up with and will be HOPING!!!
Our Autumn Party has become a real tradition.....I love traditions!!! There have been times we do it earlier in the day and do a bocce ball tournament as part of the party. That is on years that we are feeling lucky about the weather!!! Other times we do it later in the evening and it is just a wonderful gathering of friends! We have Pumpkins and Gourds and Dried Indian Corn and Scare Crows for decorations ofcourse and our traditional big pot of Posole and Usually one other soup and a few different breads.....I will make a couple and sometimes fill in with some wonderful loafs from the bakery as well. I have a couple of different big salads, usually one with lots of fresh veggies in it and one with like tomatoes and mozzarela cheese, sprinkled with olive oil and cracked pepper. I like to have a seperate table of a few yummy desserts. I make a wonderful cookie called Ruglach that I freeze ahead and usually will have a couple of different pies and a coffee cake, etc. We also will have a big pot of Hot Apple Cider cooking on the stove that everyone can help themselves to and we have cinnamon sticks and nutmeg to top them off and always a big pot of coffee ....we try to use some of the native New Mexico coffee.....One we love and others seem to really enjoy is Pinon Coffee.....and we will also have something cold to drink like iced green tea! I do change things up every year a bit, but that is kind of the basic premise!!

Melanie...i have such wonderful memories of my son jumping in the leaves!!.....Karen, my son also has red hair!!!.......Samantha, I hope you will find your way to Albuq sometime again in the Fall and please give a shout and let me know you are coming this way..would love for you to visit with me here!!.......Jessica, Albuq. is alot more humid then it used to be in the summer. Swamp coolers used to work here but since we have grown so much and we have more lawns and more people the humidity has really increased. We changed over from Swamp Coolers to Refrigerated Air this summer cause the last three summers we were Boiling by 2 in the afternoon....the swamp coolers just couldn't do the job!!!

Oh I love autumn...I was daydreaming about it while I was sitting at a stoplight downtown yesterday or the day before.  This new town will be lovely in the fall, I think. I was trying to imagine all the trees in people's yards and along the streets turning golds and reds...the crisp feel in the air...and YES--steaming pots of soup!! And spiced foods...cider, pumpkin pie...Oooooh...I'm going to get oodles of pumpkins for the front porch...harvest time is beautiful. I CANNOT wait. :)

Autumn is my favorite time of year by far. Spring would be second. There's just an excitement around that time that can't be matched. I think it's the chill in the air and the relief from the humid conditions of summer. I even countdown the days until the beginning of the season. I love almost everything about fall. My birthday is usually on the first day of fall (23rd), I was married in the fall, and it brings the excitement of the upcoming holidays.
I watch the signs of nature and keep a journal of the changes going on. From the blooming of the golden rod and iron weed in August bringing the promise of fall to the actual changing of the foliage and falling leaves in October and November. There's just something about autumn that makes me feel truly alive. I love the first real chilly morning when you start smelling wood smoke in the air, that's something I really associate with the season. I love going to the fall festivals and driving around looking at the foliage. Something about that time of year stimulates my appetite too. I love roasts and then fixing a big pot of veggie soup the next day with the leftovers.

Audrey my husband thanks you for the Posole recipe!! He lived in Tuscon for 11 years & loves southwest cooking.
My favorite season is the Fall. Everything about autumn makes me happy. Back to school supplies, the chill in the air, apples picking, pumpkins, my birthday, halloween, my husband's birthday, Thanksgiving, woodsmoke, the sunsets, the slower pace of our weekends. I just love it. Beautiful!!!!

Autumn is definitely my favorite, with winter as a close second. I love cooler weather, I love, love, love the holidays. And this December we'll have another baby so I'm especially looking forward to it.
I try to like every time of year, but it's really hard for me to enjoy summer in Texas!

Oh Elaine, I really do agree that Autumn has an excitement in the air...hard to explain but it definately does!!!
I am so glad Laura that your husband is going to enjoy the Posole!! Hope it becomes one of your family traditions in the Autumn/Winter out there in Ilinois!! When we lived in the D.C. area...... many many moons ago....we would have friends over in the Autumn for Posole and it was such a hit because it was definately something different for them.....I even used to have my Mother bring me Posole Corn whenever she was coming to visit so I could freeze it to make the Posole....Does your husband remember Sopapillas (that is kind of New Mexico rather then Arizona I guess).
Leah (love your name!!!)....I think summers almost anywhere are hard anymore.......I would love to live right on the beach and really enjoy summers!!! I am not a "beach layer" but I would love walking on the beach with my dogs and looking out at the beautiful water!!!
