I'm looking for some new ways to display my kid's clothing at shows. I just have wire hangers from WalMart now, but I'm really not happy with them. I use those with old style clothespins to display the skirts on a rack and hang jackets on them on a lattice wall. Anyone have any ideas for decorative affordable hangers for kid's clothing? My brain is empty and I can't find any ideas on the web, just expensive, custom hangers from hanger manufacturers!

You know, you could always employ a little "rust-oleum" on the metal hangers - maybe red - or pink for girls and blue for boys - and spray the clothespins to match -- That might give you a little custom look for not a lot of cash... In your store I saw those DARLING hats, too - are they crocheted? If so, you could crochet hanger covers (I know that's a lot of work, though), or maybe even wrap the hangers in ribbon or fabric?

Padded hanger covers in fabric might work. I like the painting of the metal ones idea...
I think the pictures you've posted are very nice and cute with the clothespins and the metal hangers...it doesn't detract from the actual garments but compliments them quite well. I like uniformity and simplicity so maybe I'm not the best one to pipe in on this.

When we were at Maryjanes didn't she have some tiny hangers made out of twigs/branches? They put a hanger shaped thick wire thru the branch. Red dogwood or birch branches would be nice. Just a thought.JoAnn |

I was thinking maybe you could make some cardboard ones and paint them or glue some pretty paper or pictures on them. If you have a bottle of modge podge medium you could make some nice collages on them.....

sherri ..i 've made 'twig' hangers forever to display dolly and children's vintage clothing on. you can either drill a hole through them .. or just wrap a wonderful homespun around them .. and use the same homespun for your 'hanger' part (if the hanger has to come on and off .. you can use a bendable but fairly heavy wire hanger too .. or even twine with NO fabric .. you can also put 'pretty' fabric on them. you can also get wooden dowels from a hardware or crafts store and paint them .. you can color-coordinate the paint and ribbon you hang them from. i've also taken twigs (or hangers) and simply draped a beautiful linen over them (i tack the side together so they don't slip off) .. and i think my mos' fav i ever did was to use wooden wood strips about an inch wide .. and cut just long enough for a child's outfit. i drilled a hole through the middle .. then painted and either hand-painted or stencilled children's designs on them .. and wrapped a coordinating 'ribbon' or 'cord' through the hole to hang them from. CLOTHESLINES are always wonderful to hang and display them on.

Sherri, if I'm not mistaken, you're children's clothing is more on the "now" end, right? I mean, not antique looking or whatever. The colors are fresh and bright, and pretty, so I probably wouldn't go with twigs. I like the idea of those old hangers from the 40's and 50's in soft colors (sometimes they have lambs on them, and things like that.
What about an umbrella clothesline? I don't know how big your booths are generally, but it also turns, if your dh could work out a platform to mount it to...then you can pin em up with painted clothespins or whatever, or even tie them on with pretty ribbons, alternately. That way folks can turn the display on their own, and you can have table space for other items.

sherri .. i checked your website cuz jonni said your children's clothing were more 'modern' .. i think if you use the wooden strips and painted them in coordinating COLORS .. and even make them 'go with' the outfit you will hang on them for sale .. you can then also sell the hanger along with it and make a few extra pennies.
i see summer FLOWERS and colorful STRIPES and POLKA-DOTS. you can use ribbons or wire for the hanger part. AND be sure to paint matching 'clothes pins' to hang them by.

The word was "now" not modern, Frannie.

jonni ... "now"? isn't that modern? today? up-to-date? when looking at sherri's clothes .. they looked to be all of those .. which all mean the same to me. really sweet clothes.
sherri .. i e-mailed you back some pretty specific ideas on how to make those painted hangers .. hope it is all understandable. i can try and make some later this week if you need to see some samples. (gonna' be bizzy makin' dollies today!) i'm pretty sure the ones i made are packed .. and they were more 'prim' .. darker colors with sweet little words or verses on them.

sherri .. do you ever make 'matching' dolly size dresses? (t.j. max has some ADORABLE girls dresses with matching doll dresses (i think they are the 'american girl' style size). if you could get some dollies that would fit into your chair .. maybe you could make a few 'matching' outfits .. don't have to 'sell them' .. but would be adorable i think.
oh .. and don't forget how dear clothes look strung on ribbons and clotheslines .. with or without 'clothespins' .. and if you do use clothespins .. don't forget to 'paint' them.

hey .. another idea sherri .. i'm picturing a clotheshanger wrapped and padded in a coordinating fabric .. as your dolly clothes.
for 'prissy clothes' .. i've taken pretty laces and hung them over a hanger and then put the dress on it .. just make sure the lace looks 'appropriate' with the outfit.

you can also staple wire (chicken wire might be cute) .. you can PAINT the wire a bright color .. then paint a backboard to coordinate .. you can then hang your clothing from it .. flat against the wall .. so as to not take up a lot of room.

sherri .. i LOVE all your children's clothing ... i would like to get the LADY BUG JACKET and the LADY BUG HAT for my little grand-daughter, Sofia. Can you tell me if the SIZE TWO jacket would fit a two year old? and how about the hat? how 'small' is the small and how 'large' is the large? would the small fit a two year old .. or should i go a tad larger and get the larger one?
she will be two mid-september .. and these look to be more 'autumn' .. is that right? she's in a size 24 month clothes now .. can sometimes wear a TWO .. is the TWO slightly larger than a 24 month size? (in the stores, sometimes they look to be about the same to me!
can i just send you a check directly?

Sherrie one of my favorite things for display is wonderful old shutters, I also have some great patterns for wood hangers that I would be happy to send you, I think the hanger would depend on the clothing you were selling. Let me know if you need these they are my own designs so I will be glad to share

i did a quick walk-about .. and took some pics of a 'few' hangers i have dolly clothes hanging from here at freedom valley.
any of these ideas can be 'adapted' and 'tweaked' to be prim, prissy, funky, whatever style you like.
this is a 'woodcut' hanger .. but you can make them smaller or change the shape .. don't add the 'nail pegs' .. but attach a pretty ribbon (or your choice) through the middle hole ..

a cute little 'candle holder' 'HANGER' .. again .. don't add the hanging nails .. .. these can be painted, or stencilled to match the clothes to be hung on them.
a wire hanger that looks like a real wire hanger can be attched to the hole if you have to take them off and put them on a rack constantly.

here's a gentle little 'prissier' hanger made from 'fake flower vines. this one is appropriately small because of the dainty dolly dress.
you can just use a wooden dowel .. paint or stain it .. wrap it with your floral vines of choice .. loop the vine for the 'hanger'.
this can be as dainty as baby's breath or as bold as sunflowers!
