I am a mix! I like primitive for the living room/dining/kitchen area, but in my bedroom/bath and for my girls room, I really love the pretty-prissy side of things. If it speaks to me, then I listen!

I think so. Primitive seems to have a double meaning...real primitive is simple and having only the necessities but today's primitive means all accessorized up with stuff all over the place...everything just looks old is all. I think I'm primitive style but I don't like a lot of stuff sitting everywhere, too much to clean and worry about. We are very dusty around here in the summertime and I have to dust almost everyday...I can't imagine having to dust a bunch of little items like that so much. I love the look of it though...always pine over those country decorating magazines. Have fun going from priss to prim, Frannie. Redecorating is always a fun project no matter what style it is. Fresh and new.

I think I'm more a kind of prissy girl as far as decor goes.
hard to describe..but I have very eclectic tastes..I like to mix and match things.
would sure like to see the prettties you are wanting to find new homes for though.

This is a good question that i have tossed around in my head for awhile now...actually I think you put in my head at your gathering. I've almost come to the conclusion that my style could be called Vintage Farm House. If it would feel right in a farm house then I like it. That includes lots of old painted pine, some chippy some just rubbed down but includes some slightly worn pottery in faded rose color and grass green, dull rubbed off gold edge on cream. Simple lines such as on red trimmed white enamal ware. Faded handwork that was once bright. However, i just bought the most amazing crazy quilt shams with very intricate yellow embroidered seams on dark silk patches AND the most amazing pink taffeta ruffles I have ever seen. It was love at first sight. I might put a picture on my blog tomorrow.

I tend to go for a mix of primitive and prissy. I love shabby chic with clean lines and simple, old-fashioned patterns/textures. Hubby and I both ADORE the log cabin/mountain look as well, so that has inspired most of our decor so far... log furniture and such. Recently I've gotten hooked on embroidery so now it's turning into a log cabin-y look with doilies and embroidered things to "girly" it up. :)

Luna, I am with you on the farmhouse style...I call my style "ranch" because I have some western themed things and leather furniture and like a cleaner look like many of us mentioned. I don't do flowers and prissy stuff however I sure like to look at it in pictures and enjoy all styles that others invent. I guess I would like a little playhouse for each style and fix each one up different to suit my mood for the moment! There's a thought!

I love them all and I think the ideal with also to be able to have different places to indulge and focus on each one. Wouldn't that be great!

I hover somewhere between primitive and retro--yeah, what a combo! I like the simplicity and plainness of primitive, and yet there is something about retro that does it for me. Think KitchenAid mixer and blender, post1986 Fiestaware, a 1920's gas stove (it works!), a 1941 GE fridge, vintage black Singer sewing machines (no treadles yet), a collection of feed/seed sacks, whiskey/moonshine jugs, crocks and on.

That's been a fantasy of mine too....I gave it up...not only too much work but I'll never afford it. I'm happy now to have my little farm house too. I wish you'd come and see it some time and give me some decoration pointers. I like your style.

A picnic is just what i had in mind. I keep thinking about that book Outstanding in the Field. Long Farm Table next to the garden. Of course I have to MOW and MOW and MOW before anywone could walk to it. But I'm planning it in my head. Small picnics are good too.

Nancy LOL! I like my colors to be deep. I like country reds, florals but NOT pastels. I am not very good at picking out colors, so what I started to do is take fabric that I am making either a quilt or curtains out of or better yet co-ordinating fabrics and take them to the paint store to help me find a wall color to compliment. It works!

I know whatcha mean about the retro. I call it vintage. There is something about 1920's to 50's that just draws me. This is the time of of my grandma. I love the look of treadle sewing machines. I got one that works. I plan to use it. I also love white and red enamel kitchen ware.
When I first moved here I found a pristine white enamel kitchen table with red details and red painted ice cream chairs that I put inthe kitchen all by itself and just loved it. It now sits on my side porch surrounded by enamelware in white with red or black trip. i also love bakelite kitchen tools, old blenders like you would find in an ice creamshop and I sooo want an enamel stove with chrome and black details! After seeing MaryJanes shed porch in her new book, if I ever see one again (I've passed up many because I didn't want to go totally that route in my kitchen) I'm gonna put it on my side porch!
