Hello all! I'm a new member from mid-MI. I've read the magazine before and picked it up again last week. Thought I'd give the forums a try. I'm a mom of 2 boys, living rural but not on a farm. Do have my first garden though that actually has real food growing in it! I started with the idea of a salsa garden and threw in some other fun stuff too...Got to have the zucchini and the patty pan squash! I teach, or rather consult for students with special needs during the bulk of the year. I knit, quilt, sew, scrap a bit, and got an itch to spin a while back but haven't created any "yarn" to speak of. I'm sitting here in an old apron, sipping coffee, and checking the forums before heading out to water the garden. Hope to hear from some of you soon. |

Hello and Welcome! Your just as new as I am.. well.. maybe I am a few seconds older here lol.
Congrats on the first garden, isn't it just amazing to watch it grow!! I am in love with my garden and wake each morning like a kid at Christmas to see how much bigger my corn is lol.
Love that your sitting in an old apron! I would go out to water my garden this morning, but the sky is watering it for me
Very nice to meet you!

Howdy and welcome from Texas ummm...what do we call you ? Star or do you like Meadow or both? Like Darlene said, congrats on your first garden! We haven't had much rain in our neck of the woods, so we've been doing plenty of watering ourselves. I hope your garden is coming along well :) I think you'll fit right in...I hope you'll be happy here! ~kate

Wow! Thanks for checking in with the "new girl". I didn't expect a response so quickly. Also, thanks for the garden encouragement....it and I, will need it! LOL I did have a garden once upon a time but I guess that one was made with the critters in mind...at least "they" seemed to think so. Never did see much but nibbled stalks out of that one. Hoping for a little bit o'something out of this one. We had a late frost that took all my "tender" things like tomatoes, cukes, and peppers but I replaced them with some plants from my local farmer's market. Now it seems to be all green and bushy! Thanks again to all of you for making my first attempt at a post a good one! |

Welcome from south central Kentucky. I have been involved with a garden for as along as I can remember. My grandparents and parents always had one. I planted my very own first one in 1970 and have had one ever since. Each year I think I will make it a little smaller, but that hasn't happened yet. Gardening is much of a challenge with factors such as insects, critters and the weather--most of which you can't control--but the end result is well worth it. You're gonna love this group of farmgirls!! Have a great 4th of July.

Welcome and it's nice to meet you. I enjoy a garden too but we didn't put out much this year. I'm trying to grow those huge pumpkins (500 lbs) but I think we put them out too late, but time will tell. I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
