Ok, I just know that you farmgirls will have a wealth of informaiton on this subject......I have seriously been thinking about selling some of my designs at craft fairs but have never done so before, so do not know where to begin. It seems every time I go out I get a complement on the homemade top/purse/accessory/etc. I am wearing. A couple of women have even asked me if I sell my designs, which I take as a high complment.
So, how do I find a listing of craft fairs with vendor info? I've tried googling "craft fair" and my regional area but no luck...

Go to one in your area and ask another vendor if they do alot of them or is this the only one. I build up from there. Once you get into one, your in the loop.

jennifer, i have also had good luck on the internet finding craft fairs. the state of texas has a site that list things like that, as well as different magazine sites, ie, texas parks and rec, texas highways, any magazine that has a calender of events might feature craft fairs with the contact info.
i also think it helps if you have some kind of blog site with examples of your work, and a contact card, ie business card with contact info, email address, blog site, etc., that you can pass out to folks that seem interested in your work, later they may call you and ask about an order.
we have a local flea market that occurs once a month, i have gotten business through that, orders etc.
good luck, it sounds like you have a good product, and soon i bet you will be busy filling orders.

I subscribe to a publication called "Northwest Festivals" which has great info about events in a four state region. It's expensive, but if you get a tip on one great show, it's worth the yearly subscription fee. The only complaint I have about it is that it doesn't work far enough in advance. For most of the really good shows, you need to jury about 6-8 months in advance of the show and the publication is seasonal - only goes about 3-4 months ahead. Another way to find shows is to attend shows and if it looks good, ask a vendor who to speak to about jurying the next year. It's a gradual thing - you build up a little every year. I have been in some excellent shows, for which a promoter has seen my work in a different show and approached me about participating in their show. Good luck!!

I have something to add to my last comment - do not, I repeat, do not, try to sell handcrafted textile items at a fair that also has a carnival and a free snow cone booth. The fair I went to this weekend was horrible!! TONS of skateboarding teenagers - I was right next to the free snow cone booth, they kids would get their snow cones, then push each other around, wrestle, act like teenagers, and fling nasty snow cone syrup all over my product. I had to kick them out a couple of times - a couple of my jackets got syrup all over them. I got most of it out, but they'll have to be marked down now as they're not pristine anymore. VERY disrespectful kids!! This is the first time I"ve ever been at a fair that had a carnival - not a good idea.

I have only been to one craft fair, so I am rather new at it myself, but I found out about it by looking in the local newspaper and Sunday Advertiser. It also helps to ask other venders at craft shows, which shows they go to. Good Luck Jennifer!
