Ok all you farmgirls I would like to start doing a sewing project or croche or some type of handicraft. Would like something simple to start out with, Please give me some ideas. I love to make jewelry but would like to expand. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen a lady in town making macremae (sp) jewelery. She takes old patterns and the knotting of macremae and translates it into wearable art. Maybe you would like some cross stitch? I think I have some small kits I could mail out to you for your maiden project. My sister loves it.

If you have access to a sewing machine you could start with a simple tote bag. You can search on Google for tote bag patterns and get instructions and advice as to fabric, etc. Its all straight stitching and you will have something functional when you are done.

Aimee, thanks I did cross stich when I was a teen. Maybe thats were I should pick up again? The jewelry is a great idea too, maybe I could get some ideas online.
Jana, I do have a sewing machine down at my grannys house because I took it down there because I couldnt figure out how it works ,she told me she'd look at it then we'd get together and she would show me how it works, said its a serger/sewing machine , well anyway that was a yr ago and Ive not been there for that yet. But a tote sounds like a great idea, she might even have a pattern. Thanks for all the great ideas.

For a good beginner crochet project, try a cotton dishcloth. Free patterns are all over the 'net.
Cross stitch kits are good too if you are just starting out because they have everything in them already.
Of course, evey farmgirl loves an apron - even my high school had us do aprons for our first home ec sewing project. If you learn to use the machine, you can make an apron without even having to buy a pattern; you can find many apron patterns on the 'net (MJ's book too) that are just several rectangles, easy peasy.
Have fun!

Jennifer, I went down to see my granny today and guess what?? She got me started working on a dishcloth! I am so excited. I told her about the apron and she told me to bring my book and she would show me how to get started on that as well. I am learning so much for you farmgirls. Thanks so much for all the help. Karen

Where do you get the klutz books. Can you but them from the store or do they have to be ordered?

Great job on your dishcloths!

I knit, for the most part, but I've picked up my crochet hooks to make arigurumi (crocheted toys)that are proving to be very easy. Also, I really like the summer crocheted scarves and jewelry. If you're liking crochet, browse around here www.crochetpatterncentral.com . The site has loads of free patterns, all broken down into categories so you can find what you like.

Have fun!
