It is a sad day for me,I found Tasha to be such an inspiration. She was a wonderful and unique perosn who lived life true to herself. I am so glad that I found all her books and the ones written about her. They add such joy to my life. I believe that she has gone right back in time to the 1800's where she has always wanted to go when she left this earth. I think she is living life as happy as can be.

Oh SO SAD!! I adore Tasha! I have several of her books & love to look & imagine what her life must be like. Glorious & full of inspiration! I somehow thought she was one that would never die. SO spry, even at 90. |

Oh my....I was just thinking of her this morning when I got up! I had put it on my list this morning to re-visit her books that I have. She did live her true self which has been such a great role-model for me and for many of you I can tell. What an inspiration she was and I love Mary Jane from NY's quote which Tasha truly lived...."There can be no happiness if the things we believe in are different from the things that we do." Freya Stark She will be missed!

I missed seeing this news yesterday because I spent the whole day "offline" attending the funeral of my favorite college professor, who taught Civil War history. Now the rest of you won't get this, not having known "the colonel", but I am cracking up imagining the two of them meeting in heaven. I'm glad they'll both be in good company as the incoming class. |

I found this on the web from her family.............
It is with great sadness that we must tell you Tasha Tudor, 92, passed away in her Vermont home on June 18, 2008 surrounded by family and friends. We thank you for supporting Tasha Tudor's lifestyle and artwork during her long career. We hope that Tasha's message of 'taking joy' in all that one does will be remembered as we pass through this difficult time together.

I was just thinking of Ms. Tudor the other day, I am planning a Tea for my Daughter's Brownie troop & was going to decorate with some of her books & illustrations.

What a great loss. She was a rare person and they don't make women to often like her.

Oh no! She was such an inspiration, she'll be sadly missed. She truly lived as she believed she should and saved so much wonderful history from being lost. Her costumes collections (that she wore everyday!) are stunning. Such an amazing lady.

Oh I hate to see one of the old ones who knew and kept the old ways alive. I really hate that. She was such an inspiration. I wonder how her children and corgi's are going to live with it. I am so truly sad.

I love Tasha Tudor. :( When I read about her struggling to make ends meet when she was raising her kids I didnt feel so alone. She was a free spirit and we could all take a lesson from that.

Zan, Great article...thank you! I checked out your "pumpkin patch" too but you must be busy with other things. Now that she's gone I wonder if they will make her home the museum? I think I will sent them a donation...I have never been a charter member of anything and I'll probably never make it out there to see it but what's that saying..."plant a tree even though you may never enjoy it's shade" and I've planted lots of trees over the years. What a woman she was...it takes a lot of courage to "go against the grain" of society and I am sure she wasn't always "endeared for it". Thank goodness she has a wonderful and adoring family who supported her as she did them for many years. Thanks again for sharing that with us and aren't you the great writer! I am meeting so many very accomplished people here at Mary Janes and you are all so humble about yourselves! Strut your stuff is what I say! You gals are somethin' else!

Hey Sandra, thank you so much, your words mean a lot to me. I think her kids initially wanted to find another place for the museum but I think now...her house should be the museum, since all of the precious old world things are in it...either way, I think it would be great to donate to the museum.
Ack..yes, Pumpkin Patch is sort of on hold...I'll probably update in the fall.
And yes! I think we should all strut our stuff...we are all free spirits here for sure, and Tasha was a fine example...it may not be easy to do the things we want, but I think we should be ourselves, no matter what!

I was so saddened to hear of her death too. I loved her art and kept her Christmas book, Take Joy, on my piano every Christmas since I was 12. morgen

Zan you are so lucky, what I would give to have interviewed someone that knew this fantastic lady on a day to day basis. I know who Amy is from going to Tasha's family website & reading about her. She also seems like a pure heart. What a memory!! How were you able to arrange that?? |
