I started cloth diapering with my last baby and hope to go all cloth with this next one. I've been reading about wool diaper covers/soakers and decided to try to make one. I LOVE it!!! Since I'm a spinner, I have lots of wool and yarn and I can see the new baby getting a whole rainbow of these things.
I just finished another one in shades of pink/salmon/brown and green (a yarn that I hand-dyed a couple years ago) but I don't have pics of it yet. I wasn't crazy about the leg cuffs that stick out on the first one, so the second one has a slightly narrower crotch and narrow crocheted bands around the legs instead of the cuffs.

How cute. I wonder being wool will it affect the baby, you know itchy? My deceased grandmother helped her Mom spinn, It looks fun; but I have never tried it. pinkroses

I can't speak from personal experience, but people tell me that as long as the wool is soft, it won't bother the baby. I do have a handspun wool baby blanket that I've used for both my boys and it hasn't been a problem.
The idea behind wool soakers is that wool can absorb 40% of its weight in water before it actually feels wet...so they keep the baby nice and dry.
I can't wait to try it out.
