Her name is Emerald Moon and we call her Em for short. She is an andalusian x paint.
Why is it that just when you get a good shot momma comes in front of the camera??

Beautiful!!! I just love those spindly legs--her momma looks very proud (and you, too, of course!!)
Farmgirl Sister #80, thanks to a very special farmgirl from the Bluegrass..."She was built like a watch, a study in balance ... with a neck and head so refined, like a drawing by DaVinci"... NY Newsday sportswriter Bill Nack describing filly, Ruffian. http://www.buyhandmade.org/ |

Thanks everyone, we just love her. I was convinced she was going to be a colt since Shy Ann (the mare) went over her due date by a week. I was next door to panicked by the time she finally foaled. I wish I could convey to you all what a life change this has been for us as a family. We have always had horses that we boarded out but we never had the experience of even going out into our back yard and grilling. My son has grown up in the city. So for him to go into the barn to water and feed Shy Ann like he had the mornings before and be greeted with that fuzzy nose was more priceless than anything. I know Ive done the right thing pulling up our roots and moving out to the farm.
You cant tell on the pictures but she has a crescent moon shaped star on her forehead. Its the same shape and orientation as the moon was at the time of her birth! So we knew that it had to be moon or luna. But after some thought I realized that I should give a nod to the stallion owner (Emerald Dreams Farm) so I combined the two for Emerald Moon, but it was all I could do to keep the 'shy' out of the name. :)
