Karin,
You make all the kitty quilts?? Lucky cats. I love the way Tubby made him/her self confortable on the doll/cat bed.
The long red handled device is for making toasted cheese sandwiches on the stove top or fireplace or campfire. butter the outside of two slices of bread, put cheese (or whatever) inside, close it tight. Trim the crust or whatever is outside the round shape off, and then turn it back and forth over the fire until you think it's done. Can open a bit to see if the bread has toasted to your specification. They were popular in the 50's and will have to admit have eaten a lot of toasted cheese sandwiches made on one. I see them occasionally now. The later ones were made of much thinner aluminum and not very good. Looks like yours is older.
Now I know what I can put in with your sailor fabric...I'll share one of my Nevada plates with you. Have duplicates of a few, so will choose one.

Sorry to inflict a few more, but I;m just trying to normalize my yard sale karma, I mean it is such fun to look at everyone else's loot. I hope. I like this cake keeper and the red I'm not sure what it is, too heavy for a glass, maybe a stubby little vase or something you could bathe a tarantula in, will be going to the
Red Queen for her birthday

Way Cool, Karen!!!! I love, love those quilts. Just thinking, that red crock with a lid that looks like a drum? Is that a Longaberger piece? If so, what a dealio! I'm crazy for your daughter's picture, and that kitty sleeping in the westlake bed is TOO cute!

Gotta go watch the Belmont :)

Well I turned that pot upside down and it does say Longaberger, I have no idea what that means. I guess I'll look it up on the internet,,,I thought it looked very heavy duty with the bricks and the strapping, made me think of baking Dungeon Beans or maybe Lobscouse . I can't remember what the last one is, I remember it from a book i read a million years ago, I think it is something they feed the sailors who swill out the bilge water, or maybe it is made with bilge water, then again it might have been one of those turn of the century New England specialos made of crackers and fish heads or clams. Well, far more drivel than any one needed. I also didn't know that was a Westlake bed that Tubby had wedged his large butt into, it just was so cute, I got it years ago at an antique store. Glad to know it has a background, I'll look that up as well. Thanks. Karin

I can help you a little on the Longaberger, Karin. It's a basket company, started by the Longaberger family in Dresden, Ohio. The company was started as a family business, producing 3-4 types of utilitarian farm and home baskets, and then in the early 80's, became a "collectible". The actual headquarters of the company is a building that looks like their signature gathering basket. Pretty cool. I recognize the drum piece as one of their Christmas limited edition items. Congrats on a great find! http://www.longaberger.com/ourProducts.aspx

The bed that Tubby is sleeping on is a mid-Victorian style called Westlake. It's lovely, and has some neoclassic lines, a few years before "gaudy" victorian in the 1880's...

love tubby!!.....sleeps like my sammy and olivia (who are black/white--tuxedo kitties!) i collect red handled kitchenware, however i don't believe i've seen what you have pictured? reminds me of something used to make waffles (but too small?) cause you can flip it over and heat both sides. if any one knows, i'd like to know what it is! quilts are beautiful! have a great day!
