This is one that I debated on posting but venting feels good so here goes...
I found out from my aunt, that my natural mother died of breast cancer, not the ovarian cancer I thought all these years! And no one could tell me??!! Fortunately, I have breast exams and knows my hooters very well but still...
So I have clued in my daughters and they do breast exams also. Turns out that my mother lived close for a while to the NM atomic testing and a lot of women developed cancer and died from it.
What a thing not to know...

I wonder if sometimes people just don't THINK about this stuff, and then after they finally tell you it's like "Oh, guess I should have mentioned that". I'm glad you found out though. Of course now you have to wonder if it's not genetic, but more environmental. Maybe you all won't have to worry, but it's better to be safe!

At this point, I'm thinking it's more environmental as I know of no other female in my biological families with any sort of cancers. *said in a wry way*...I guess that's a 'good' thing... :P

That IS a good thing Winona.
My mother died of (what was Considered AT THE TIME) a very rare condition that basically had no known origins. It was an auto-immune disease that, (scarily enough), seems to be becoming MORE prevalant in our society. The Doctor that I worked with for many years (my mom's family Doc) told me that the chances of one of my mother's children acquiring the SAME disease our mother had would be a one in a million chance.
He DID say that the chances of us having some kind of "residual" affects of that disease was pretty high though. On that note, he was RIGHT! Each of us has dealt with SOMETHING weird affecting our bodies (Mine were allergies that even the SPECIALISTS couldn't treat). The problems we are all facing CAN be life threatening, but they don't carry a death sentence if properly managed.
In our case, there IS a genetic link, but if no one in your family has had a case of Cancer-- even a CURED one-- it's more likely that your mother WAS the victim of environmental influence, as you said, and you have little worry about in that department.
