We have had Appaloosas, well two of my daughters did and showed in 4H. If I find any pics I will post them. Shannon's was named Breezy and Jolene's was Moore's Papoose. We called her Papoose. Jolene got her they both were 12 and had her for 17 years and she died on our property (the horse, that is) and Jolene had her cremated, so she is still with us. Jolene would like another Appy. MB

Im an appy lover! I never had anything else until the last few years. We are people for whom our animals find us, rather than the other way round..but if I had my druthers I would pick spots!

Before we got into Morgans, we had Appaloosas. Dh lived on the Nez Perc Reservation in North Idaho years ago and that's where he fell in love with them...he still loves them but after we had kids he started on a quest to raise the ideal all-around family horse so we got some Morgans. He's a very focused breeder and didn't want to try to raise two breeds so we let the appys go.
Dh says that a lot of people don't like appys because typically they are smarter than their owners.

LOL, your DH is right about that! I've been very fortunate to have Apps that are smart but don't use it against me. The Leopard App I have now is the funniest, most charming horse I've ever owned.

Kim, I just took a look at your Scout. He could be my Charlie's twin. Charlie is going to be 25 this August. He is a great horse. I've had him since he was 3 and traveled all over the back country of Washington on him. He's still going strong! I was 33 when I got him and my daughter was 6...now I'm 55 and dd is 28... My husband says he hopes he goes before Charlie does; that's going to be a hard one. I like all breeds too, but of the horses I've had in my life (Welsh pony, quarter horse, Arab, and Charlie) he is the best! |
