I thought it would be nice if there were a thread where people could post what perrenials they were dividing or collecting seeds from and we could all share. I know I will have some things this fall. But since we just moved into our new home there is much I would love to get, like hosta, lilies, peony, really any perrenial plant or heirloom seed. So what say we post whatever we are dividing to share here? We farmgirls gotta stick together right? Just like our grandmothers did, share a slip of that and I will share a slip of this. What do you say?

| I love irises, even have a tiny purple tattoo of one on my ankle. Will barter for any that might get divided when the time is right later this year. I don't have plants to barter, but lots of other stuff. I do have one Sweet Lena Iris from MJF and it's so pretty, but this is just it's second year so not ready for dividing. |

I'd love to participate. I know there have been lots of individual threads when one person wants to trade, but I agree that it would be nice to have one continuous thread.
I think it's safe to say that I will always have extra columbine and feverfew seedlings coming up in my yard. So if you are looking for those, I'm your girl. |

I have irises and day lilies that need to be divided. Not sure about the color on the irises - most did not bloom this year, just large "healthy looking leaves". The ones that did bloom were a pale peach color-pretty (Picture on my blog). The lilies are the typical orange ones. We just moved here a year ago and I am slowing cleaning up flower beds and replanting things. Most of the yard is in shade now. I'm thinking that when someone planted these flowers years ago it wasn't shadey. What I really need in the back yard is hostas.
Don't know the best time of year to dig those up, but I'll look it up.

Cathy, Irises should not be divided until the leaves turn brown..after the bloom (or not, if yours didn't this year) Might be late bloomers too, there are different varieties. Usually Sept is a safe time, and can be replanted before the winter freeze. Daylily's are very hardy, those I had in pots on the deck are coming back nicely. I don't care about color, love them all. If you should want to barter, let me know what you'd like in return. If it's something lightweight, I can pay the postage on the irises too.

| I have 3 or 4 little hostas that I divided last year and planted in a spot where I don't really need them now. Cathy and Sarah, if you want hostas I could probably send you each 2 little plants. Let me know. I'd take some irises in trade, when they are ready to divide. Or if anyone has sweet woodruff, I need more of that. |

| Hey, I was thinking about this last night....Since I don't think any of us are professional growers, and we'll just be pulling these plants from our yards, is there a danger that we'll be inadvertently spreading pests or diseases around the country by mailing plants to each other? I know I see signs at all the national parks saying "don't bring your own firewood" for that reason. Just something to consider.... |

Do any of you have any flowers that will grow in the shade? I would definitely be interested in the hostas.
The daylilies are in bloom right now and I have a lot of those that need new homes. I dug up some of the irises in the early spring and they have been drying out in the building. Leaves are brown so I guess they could be shipped anytime now. I have about 6-8 of those. I really have no idea about their color.

due to the heat here right now ..at 93 degrees lately..I must say that I won't be digging anything up just yet gals.
here it is absolutely best to wait until about September before I start digging things out, otherwise everything has a big chance of going into immediate shock and well... croaking
if they get dug up now..but I will definitely have a few things for trade as I'll be potting up things anyhow to take with me(but tackling that project in the Fall)...things that I don't want to convey with the house..so I'll try and get a few extra little things dug out for a few of you gals.
hope you understand that at 93 degrees its just too dang hot to be out there right now and with 70 percent humidity at that some days.
uggh.
so bear with me and when I can start digging out plants here..I will...and if there is something else you'd like other than a plant for trade for a plant/bulb of yours let me know.I can make you a tea towel or a collage on 8 by 10 canvas that sort of thing.

Yep, I think Tina's right. We should put the trading on hold til fall for the plants to be dug up. It's been in the high 90's here, too! YUK!! All we had for the last week is hot, windy days and more storms. We still don't have the yard cleaned up from Thursdays storm and now we have another one moving in.

I have some white spider lily bulbs to swap..as well as a few blue agapanthus bulbs/rhizomes
I'd like to trade out for day lily fans or mini irises or irises..rose cutting starts,or anything else that is a pretty perennial.
