Hi, I'm new here (made an introduction down the the welcome wagon folder) and I notice a lot of you like to go to yard and estate sales like myself.

I was wondering what items do you usually seek out when you go to a yard sale and which do you usually ignore?

Me? I love vintage linens, baskets, laces, buttons, church and organizational cookbooks, old books, and any vintage glass or cookware.

I ignore the clothes.

Hi Shelley! Good to see you!

I love any kind of sale too!! Such an addiction isn't it!
On Thursday or Fridays that I don't have to be to work a bit later in the morning I always leave a couple hours ealier then I have to so I can try to hit a few Yard Sales along the way!!

i like Vintake Linens too.. old tablecloths & napkins.. old pillowcases.. Hankies.. lace & yes.. i love running into a cache of buttons! Old books too.. I seem to have had good luck now & then at the library when they are selling off old books..
I do collect some different types of depression glas.. but i really love old drinking glasses..& i collect ANY kind of Zephyrware.. the old colored tin glasses.. And ALL Apron's!
always keeping my eye open for fabrics!

I usually don't bother too much with the cloths either.. but i'll grab some flannel shirtc when i find them.. I don't think you can ever have too many flannel shirts in the house!
& if no one can use them.. then i KNOW i can find a craft project for them!!

Kathie,
I have no clue what Zephyrware is...and do you mean the aluminum drinking "glasses" from the 50's
Those who know me, know I don't do yard sales, but thrift shops call my name quite often. Too often, actually, but when I find whatever it is that was calling to me, it's worth the time and effort. Last week it was the Assistance League shop and low price to begin with and then half price linens I had to rescue and bring home.

Thanks for the replies...

I was on vacation all week, so I pounded the pavement to thrift stores, antique malls and later in the week..estate and yard sales. I had a lot of luck, especially with linens. (I LOVE old embroidery and am an avid embroiderer myself--I have quite a collection of vintage patterns, which I do share.) I bought a lot of unembellished linen napkins and one huge tablecloth that I will embroider on.

Aprons! I got 15 of them this weekend. Some need a little repair, but most were 50 cents to a dollar.

I also love depression glass and I collect all depression glass in pink or milk glass. I also love advertising tins and signs and found a few of those.

I love summertime!!!

Sounds liike you had a great time foraging for treasure. I am a big fn old old cloth, linens, crocheted potholders, and aprons, and any other amount of wonderful things. Been too cold for yard sales here yet, but I must avert my eyes from them for a while anyway. I've still got a few things in my car that I haven't hauled in because I shudder to think where I'll wedge them into the house....

Thank you Karin. I'm enjoying it a lot.
I got a kick out of your "wedge them into the house". Because that's exactly what I do, and I just recently "de-junked".

I LOVE to find cookie tins...especially Christmas themed ones...I do a TON of baking around the holidays---and when people stop by I like for them to be able to take goodies with them...some I have found stay home with Moi, but others are welcomed into new homes, all stuffed with all kinds of different sugar plums!!!

Dirt under my nails and weeds in my hair...don't tell me I can't dress up with flair!
