Is anyone able to explain how farm financing is different from a regular mortgage? We have found our slice of heaven if we can figure out how to finance it now. any tips or experiences to share?

Have you been to the farm credit bureau? you might look them up in the phone book for your county and give them a call. Also if you or your hubby is a vet, there might be something there as well.
We were lucky in that we were able to buy ours from the owners and pay it off to them-in other words, owner financed.
Good luck!

we lucked out-we bought it from an older couple who had some experience in this area and we were able to do it all ourselves. We did have a large down payment which eased some fears for them, plus we limited ourselves to pay five years to pay it all off. I realize that's not something everyone can do, but it worked for us.
good luck with the farm bureau!

I just bought my slice contract for deed. It can be done if you can find someone who wants to work with you. :) The reason we were able to do this is that this house needs a lot of work and the owners didnt want to put anything into it to put it on the market. Its a little like camping...but I have a huge barn!

OK! Now we are returning with another offer and waiting on approval from our mortgage company for the increased amount! Plus we HAVE to sell our house now! So it is all within reach and not a bit of it certain to be grasped!

Almost forgot to ask, what is a farm credit bureau? I've never heard of this, is this something different than the normal credit bureaus? Do they still put from the same 3 credit bureaus? Sorry so many questions, just DH and I have been thinking about getting a farm in the near future once we sell our current house after the depression or whatever you want to call it ceases, that way we can put a nice down payment.

I put a few pictures on the blog of the farm but was almost embarrassed to stop again so they are all from the road. I'm sure there will be more!

O Girl, do I remember that feeling! Not that long ago, either. It's just a a year and a half ago that we contracted on our own little slice. I can't say that it has always been easy, but I have not regretted it for one moment.

Congratulations and joy, joy, joy to you!
