Right after having your baby? I am shocked at how quickly a lot of women seem to bounce back right after having a baby. Now, I have a friend who is a part time athlete, so she sprang back fast, but I worry about others who get so skinny so quick. Yes, some is genetic, but I think a lot of women are literally hurting themselves to get back to their fighting weight. I know breastfeeding burns a lot of calories and just walking in a stroller with a baby helps but I ran into someone who just had a baby 3 weeks ago and she is almost anorexic looking, unhealthy to me. She was thin before but it is almost like she is pushing herself too much. She started exercising the day she got home from the hospital and has been working out 2 hours a day to lose the weight. She gained 35lbs. I have also read that a woman's body doesn't truly recover from a pregnancy until almost a year or 2 after having the baby. Well..this is the excuse I am using.... , but seriously.......What are your thoughts?

I know that breast feeding helps you slim down after baby because it causes uterine contraction. After I had my first one, I was slow in losing anything but I was expecting again by the time my first one was 6months old. After the second one, (A c-section) I lost all the weight quickly but had a belly pooch. I guess they said unless I really work at it my tummy will never really get back to its right flatness...lol My whole family is naturally thin so I guess that is a lot of it.:) I would love to be heavier than I am right now but I dont want another a baby right now to get that way...heehee..my almost-twins are enough to handle so I guess not being heavier isnt too big of a priority right now. :) Though, it makes me feel so much better when I am Hugs Jessie

I haven't lost my weight yet, but I also haven't been exercising like I should. I wish I had exercised while nursing as I think I would have been in better shape :( Oh well!
Just like anything in this world, there seems to be some who will choose an unhealthy route. I feel bad for them and hope they don't do damage to their bodies.

I am still the same size I was in junior high (of course I felt so heavy then, compared to all the twig girls and gangly boys), and I can't tell you how sick I am of hearing, 'Oh! You don't look like you could possibly have had 5 kids'. Honey, I *feel* it!

It took me a year after my first son to get back to my old weight, 2 years after my second and I'm still working on losing the a few more pounds since I had my last one 4.5 years ago! Genetics is against me, so I'm thrilled I've been able to get the weight off by eating healthy & exercising daily. I never did any weird fad diets. I've seen women have 4 or 5 kids come home from the hospital in their size 4 jeans (very depressing for me) and I've seen some never ever lose the weight. Everyone is different. Eat healthy, exercise and get as much sleep as you can. So long as you feel healthy nothing else should matter!

Sherri, you are too funny!
I lost my weight (all 68 pounds of it) with my son within a year. With my daughter I lost the 25 I gained with her pretty fast. I "cheated" a little with both, they both weighed over nine pounds when they were born.
Unforutnately, my extra weight I have now isn't from my babies. It is from chocolate!!!

I always lost all of my "baby weight" right away. I only gained 20 -25 pounds when pregnant, so once that baby came out and nursed night and day, I could get into my jeans within the week....that is for all 4 of them. But, once I stopped nursing at a year old or better....I had to be careful because I would put on 10 pounds immediately.
My babies were #1) 10.7 pounds, #2) 7.8 pounds, #3) 8.4 pounds and #4) 8 pounds even.

I weigh 150 now and this is how it went with the kids.....lol.. #1. 115 before 120 after #2. 130 before 145 after #3. 145 before 150 after (lost 30 pounds during the pregnancy, so how is it I weigh MORE not? GRRR)
UGH! Ok..so I need to lose 15 pounds and I'd be happy, 20 and I would be in heaven....and wow..if only....well I won't go to the first weight again I'm sure of it! The way I see it, I don't eat like I should all the time, and my kids, job, and garden have taken priority over the gym the last month!
So, long answer to a short question, no, two years later I still don't have the weight off, but how long can I consider it baby weight? |

With #1, I gained 25 lb. and lost it all within about three months.
With #2, I gained 35 lb. and lost it within about six months.
With #3, I'm 14 weeks along and have gained 7 lb. already, mostly due to eating constantly to try to keep morning sickness at bay. So we'll see how I end up!

I only gained 30 with my second; however, I lost all of it within the two weeks after her birth. The catch is, that I hadn't lost the 30 I gained with my first child....so since my second is only 13 mos, I have "transfered" that weight--so now I use the excuse that I just had a baby . I'm doing better tho...gardening and chasing chillun's burns it right off ya' in the Texas heat!!!

Chiming in for the first time. I gained 67lbs with my daughter, whoa. I had to grow an ass the size of my belly to act as a counterweight! She is 22 months and we are still breastfeeding, so I am about 10-15 lbs heavier than when I started. I got pregnant at age 31, so I blame 30's metabolism ;) I will say though that I was too thin at 5'8" and 120 lbs and feel much better at 130ish, all part of the loving your mama body I guess. |

I dont know , I think some women are just lucky. I NEVER had a weight problem before my son, and afterwards I could just look at a chocolate cake and my jeans would feel tight. I am still heavier than I was before but I sort of met in the middle but it did take me a good two years before my body was willing to start letting go of the weight.

I haven't lost the weight from either of my babies. And the first one is three and a half! I really need to get losing weight. I want to have another baby, but won't try until I am a healthier weight.

Heather, I gained 60 Lbs with my first. I took that "your eating for two" thing just a bit to seriously. About a year later i still had not lost any of the weight, and was pregnant again. So i decided that i was NOT going to do that again! And so i road my bike 3-5 miles a day and only gained 12 Lbs. So about 2 1/2 years after having my second daughter i finally lost all the original 60Lbs. I went out and bought a whole now closet full of clothing (non of my fat clothes fit any more) and i was happy for about 2 months.... then discovered #3 was on the way. I am not say that i was not happy to have another baby, but i had worked so hard at loosing all the wight... So this time i am not going to far one way or the other. So when baby comes i will have about 30Lbs to work on loosing. I don't think that i will really start to try till the baby is about 1 1/2 to 2 years old though... Kristy |

I did just fine for the first two but that third kid, my son, just did me in! Now that I'm middle aged, the weight isn't going anywhere, just hanging in front.
Actually, I was thinking of doing that tummy tuck thing. I have my horse but I'm driving my big rig all the time and so can't exercise as much as I need to.
I'm blaming it on genetics at this point...hehehe...

I have kept an average 10 pounds per baby. What is strange is that I lost the most after the children that are the chunkiest and the least with the children that are skinny as rails. after my first I was within 10 pounds of pre baby weight " second " 3 " " " third " 20

Don't hate me, I am fat, any way....lol But, I only gained 7 lbs during pg, and lost 10 about a week after she was born. (I didn't weigh from about 2 days before she was born, till a week after she was born-it's a dr office appt thing, not me being crazy with the scale).
Any way, I didn't try hard not to gain, or to lose weight. But, I do eat on a pretty rigid diet/schedule, cause I'm a diabetic type 1.
So.....uh, I believe it took around a week to lose the weight. But, I don't know since I wasn't on the scale every day. But, with in a week I do know it was gone. At the hospital right after birth, I didn't look like I had had a baby at all. (no bump etc). My husband said it was weird to see me who looked like I had never been preg, with other women at the hospital who you couldn't tell they had had their baby yet. He doesn't care about weight mind you, he just thought I should look like the other mom's! lol hahaha I never did though. I would be at the drs office just about ready to give birth and people could barely tell I was preg, meanwhile other women were waddling, with stomach's looking like they would burst.....I wanted that! lol |

I was very lucky that breastfeeding always took care of my pregnancy weight gain fairly quickly (about six months). Unfortunately, I had to have an hysterectomy about five years ago, and have gained and been unable to lose about 30 pounds. |

Well, I gained almost 60lbs with my boy. I have lost all but 15 of it. It is hanging on for some reason all I CAN'T SHAKE IT!!!! However, the thought of the gym makes me shiver....I just don't have time for that kind of excercise....The diet is good and actually much better than before I was pregnant. Since having Zach, we are as organic as possible. But I need to find easy excersise that doesn't take away from the boy!

I love a glider/gazelle. I bought mine at Walmart for around 80 dollars, and just love love love it!
I'm a husky girl myself, so I am not saying this to be mean, but I would not invest in the 80 dollar one if I was over 200lbs as I think it may be a bit on the flimsy side for that (at one time I was 250lbs, I'm now 150lbs, so I am not saying this to be mean to any one over 200lbs, just saying this cause if I was still 250, I wouldn't of wanted to waste my money just to have to buy something else.) I think it's great if you are under 200lbs, just right, easy on the knees, and you can do it at home!
If you are over 200, I would buy the one online that is designed for heavier people, and slightly more expensive. I have a friend who is near 400lbs and she has the really really good one, and I think she paid like 200 or 300 for it, but she can easily use it, and it's sturdy enough for her! And she loves using it too. In fact, she was the one who talked me into getting the one I have! lol :) She bought her sturdier version from QVC. I got mine at walmart. |
