Hi, I am currently waiting to (hopefully) join one or more local chapters if they are still active. It's been over a week since I sent e-mails to them, but it IS a holiday, so. . . I'm trying to be patient.
If they aren't still active, I *may* consider starting a chapter. This is what I envision some of the activities might be:
-- Craft nights with maybe one person demonstrating their craft and everyone bringing whatever they are working on -- Recipe Swap Potluck: Everyone brings a recipe to share, including it made for everyone to try. -- Do a canning day together at a local commerical kitchen -- Day shopping trip to Shipshewana (Indiana) Amish Flea Market -- Day trip to Allegan Fiber Fair held in August -- Weekend girls get-a-away, camping, spa, ???? -- Summer bonfires making s'mores, talking, maybe a little wine tasting, or at the very least, good local cider in season! -- Concert or local civic theatre night -- plant swap (I divided bearded iris's this year and had to SEARCH out people to give 100 of them to!) -- Dinner cruise on Lake Michigan -- Train trip (2 hrs) to Chicago for shopping day
On a grander scale: Starting a local co-op (we don't have anything like that) Being an active volunteer group for a "teaching farm" project just in the planning stages in our county right now Organize a "Go fly a kite with your kids!" day at our farm utizing our long, bowling alley pasture, potluck with pig roast, live music, pony rides . . . Okay, now I'm dreaming because my husband would die off thinking about the liability of that endeavor. : )
Anyway -- do I get this MJF concept right? Am I in the right place? Because this is the kind of stuff I would love to do with kindred spirit sisters.
So, what do YOUR chapters do? What have you found works and what doesn't?

Here's some things we do/have done/plan on doing *U* Ice breaker Tea (introductions, etc. ) cheesemaking soapmaking fermenting canning/pickling quilting knitting goat husbandry horseback riding raw milk/cultured dairy products grains/baking raw food/Nutrition ...these are some ideas, now, you should know this is mostly pretty informal. It's just us girls doing what we like to do and are interested in doing. Teaching each other, and our teen girls.

We have soooo much fun!!! but my little chapter of Barnyard "Babes" consists of me and my two clostest girlfriends!!! We usually meet at one of our homes on Monday mornings and then we usually have coffee(sometimes a Starbucks Latte run!) and a homemade goodie by my baking goddess friend and then we make something! It's group therapy, crafting, laughing our bums off!!!!I think we might start making some of the projects in the magazine!!!
Anyways!!! Farmgirl friends are the best!!! Best of luck to all your chapters!HUGS!!!!!

My chapter is only in its third month, but so far we've had a book club/craft night, a "green cleaning" party, where we learned to make our own green cleaners, and coming up this summer, we're going to go on an herb walk, a rafting trip, probably a local farm tour, photography clinic, and lots of stuff. We only meet once a month officially. I use MaryJanes Idea book for my main plan, and then when people sign up I have them fill out a skills inventory list, so I can know who I can get to lead various activities...that way I'm not leading everything! In the further future, we plan to do cheesemaking, canning, and various community service projects too. Oh, and probably some knitting, crocheting, sewing clinics too. Stuff like that, depending on what the ladies want, and the skills we have to share with each other. Have fun!!! Go ahead and start the chapter! Its easier than you think!
