Couldn't resist showing you girls this pick of the ladies helping me in the garden the other day. I was weeding and they couldn't resist coming over to 'help'. They must think I'm the best chicken ever, I scratch up all kinds of good dirt and share worms and green stuff with them

I love this picture and I can relate. We currently have (6) Barred Rock Laying hens and (3) Americauna "Pensioner" hens -- that is, they are elderly (9 or 10, I've lost track) and more or less pets. One of the senior ladies, "Ivory", has gotten incredibly tame over the years and follows me all over when I'm outside. She's my little dog chicken. : ) This behavior has rewarded her on many occasions when I'm doing activities like weeding and such and some lovely grubs or other poultry delicacies are uncovered and tossed her way. The other hens will hang around, but Ivory is underfoot, or trying desparately to be. She lets the kids pick her up and carry her around too.
I'm really going to miss that old girl if she ever DOES go to the big barnyard in the sky. . .
