Hello from North Carolina! I live in a rural area in piedmont(central) NC. I'm 10 miles from the grocery and 14 miles from Walmart. I love gardening, canning , baking and growing medicinal plants. We have 4 hens that keep us in organic eggs. I have culinary herbs and lettuce that are producing well, with peppers and tomatoes coming along slowwwwly!
I work in the public school system and will soon have the summer off. I plan to catch up on my scrapbooking and work in my garden and on my genealogy projects. I have a project in planning stages for a native american medicine wheel or spirit garden. Does anyone have any advice or hints for me? We live in zone 7, so some of my planting will be in the fall. I've ordered seeds from Oregon. Some I've sewn, others will have to wait. Any ideas for icons in the different sections of the wheel?

Hi Jnaet! I know where Kannapolis is. I'm a hop and skip away, in Rutherfordton, between Asheville and Charlotte.
Nice to meet you!

Oh my gosh, I've wanted to do a Native American Medicine wheel too! I've done some research, but I'm sure it will be a few years before I can actually do it. I'd love to know your plans. I grow a lot of herbs. You can share over in the herb forum--that would be so cool.
Welcome!

Hi Janet. Welcome. I've never heard of a medicine wheel but I'm intrigued. Must do some research.

Hi Janet and Kim - I'm in New Bern, moved here last year from Asheville and been to Rutherfordton many times. My gardening is limited to what we can grow in pots, but we're growing lots of tomatoes, cukes, peppers and herbs. We do have lots of flowers and a few onions in the ground. I'm new to the forum also. |

Welcome Janet. I am in south central KY. Have been in my vegetable garden this morning. Got out there early, but it got hot quickly. I taught in the public schools for 29 years and always had my summers planned. They seemed to get shorter and shorter. We started a new calendar where you would have 9 weeks of classes and then a 2 weeks vacation. That made the summer vacation shorter. Hope you enjoy this site. You get some really good, tested, advice here.
