I just got a forwarded message from home. It's about a Marine Sargent escorting a fallen soldier on a plane.
I'll see if I can retrieve the message and send it to Franny. Maybe she can post it.
Anyway, to show support for our troops, we are to wear something red on Fridays.
I wear a do-rag at work and home in the garden. So it looks like I be wearing a red bandana on Fridays. |

Anna,
Thanks for this thread. My Son Thomas is in the Marine Corp. And they do notice the things we may call "little things". I have encouraged both of my older boys ( one Marine one Coast Guard) to write down the kindresses of people. I have been shocked by the things strangers will do and say when they see the boys in the airports. Example: When I took Lucas back to the airport the last time he was home.... we were standing in line for coffee.. and people allowed him to go to the front of the line.. One gentlemen came up to us after he got his coffee and asked Lucas about the CG and before leaving handed him a coffee card saying, the next one is one me... Such a sweet gesture.. when Lucas srrived in Maryland, we went to get a coffee and discovered the gentlemen had put $100 on the card... that is a lot of coffee even for a sailor..............The stories are endless.... I hope they write a book when they are done.. we hear so much of the negetive.. and seldom hear about the "little things" that are life changing to alot of the people that serve. Thanks for the thread!

I don't want this to get lost in the shuffle
and I'd like to say this too.
I have a friend whose husband was in the Army. He is honorably discharged and is looking for work. For some reason it bugs him when people make a big deal by thanking him, cards, special treatment....whatever.
I don't think he realizes what's at stake or how much the sacrafice means to some of us.
I have another friend over in Iraq right now. He is the only son in his family, but couldn't be talked out of not serving. It's in his blood. (At the tender age of 6 my mom who worked in the school library helped him check out books about war ect...)
I'll wear my red for him and everyone else over there busting their tails. |
