Hey girls. Last year I posted this about the Asian pears for barter. If there are enough would any of yall be interested in them? There have been so many in the past that the tree became a hornet magnet, so I'm hoping to pick as many as I can! (my fat horse also waits under the tree for them to fall) So pending that they turn out, which if they turn out, they will turn out by the hundreds!

Let me know if any of yall might want some. I think you can make MaryJanes crackly pear cake with these, and I know you can make preserves and stuff as well! I think you can also put them in a cool dark place like a cellar and they will ripen.

I dont even know if I want to barter or trade yet. I will just want to get them out of here, but if you wanna trade for a lil somthing...we'll just see when the time comes. Although I will have to find out about shipping costs :(

If you are interested, I need to make a list and the amount that you want, so as soon as they are ready I can start sending them away! (although I dont think that will be until sugust or so)

I'll have a ton of these on my tree too this year Christine, but..I do plan to preserve ours. I wanted to mention that about the end of August/early September they should be ready. What you do to help them ripen is to place them into paper bags.
It takes about 2 weeks for them to turn a golden yellow color. They do tend to have quite a thicker core than store bought pears, but they still make for good cooking pears.adding a little cinnamon/nutmeg to them and sugar and let them cook til tender and then jar up makes for a wonderful pancake/waffle topping or even a pear crumble.

We might be interested and by then we might figure out what to barter. We will be planting our garden next weekend and will be putting it in with the intention on preserving as much as we can and saving seeds.
Also would like to know if anyone has seeds of any and all kinds as we are looking for items that are not hybrids. Also advice on how to preserve seeds.
Blessings,
Pauline

What we have done about saving seeds is with something like cantaloupe/cuke/tomato/squash/zuchini/etc is: throughout the season mark the nicest shape/size/color fruits with a twist tie or watever. Leave them on the plant until just ready to pick. (4 globed bell peppers, nice straight cukes, tomatos without deformities) when you pick them, scoop out the seeds into a fine sieve/collander, like the kind with the screen. and rinse the pulp and meat off of the seeds, then dump the seeds onto a piece of wax paper and spread them out so they will dry evenly and set them on top pf the fridge or other dry place for a few weeks until they are dry. Then the scrape right off of the wax paper, and you can store them in film canisters, or some other dark container.

Good luck

Thank you, Christine, we are always ready for advice on these things. Right now my daughter, Mary, is starting some citrus tree's that will do well on our sun porch. We know how to grow many things and will be searching for seeds that are not hybrids to plant and recover seeds from. The aid you posted will help in our endeavor and I appreciate your help. I look forward to possibly getting pears from you if the shipping costs are not even more nuts by then.
Hugs,
Pauline

When they are ready please give me a whisle and I am sure something can be arranged. I don't mind the barter at all, who knows what we can work up? LOL It's work to arrange them, run to the post office and make sure things are sent, I know because we do it everyday in our charity.
Love pears anyway and am sure I will think of something fun!!
Hugs,
Pauline
