Hi eevryone! I posted here a long time ago--over three years, but since then a lot has changed. I don't remember my old username--and I feel different anyway, so a new name is good!

I live on four acres with my husband and daughter in the thumb of Michigan. I am a city girl transplant, but I grew up spending my summers in Kentucky with my great grandparents and grandparents on their farm. My husband grew up on a working farm, and is a farmer through and through (although he currently works as a nurse and landscaper).

We are in the process of re-evaluating our life and returning to a simpler lifestyle. I used to run a food coop, and I haven't given up the organics, but we really want to get back to less packaged, more homegrown foods. We have a berry patch, herb garden and veggie garden that gets bigger every year. I'm also determined to "put up" a lot of food this summer, so I will be on here a lot asking for help!

Glad to be back!

Welcome Diane...I know exactly what the thumb of Michigan is...in fact, when I read it, I put my hand up to see it...I went to boarding school at Interlochen, near Traverse City and whenever someone would ask me, I learned how to show them my "mitten".

Have fun here (again :)...

Oh, I love it up there! My husband almost bought land up in Kalkaska, long before I knew him. When he told me I was crushed, lol! I'd love to live up there!

I did too...spent 4 years there, Autumn through Springtime....I remember the lakes and the sand, and the sky and the pines. Such a beautiful place to spend my formidable years. Interlochen is ingrained in me like no other place I've been...well, maybe Cornwall, England, but Interlochen and the area surrounding really move me. I loved that before the school and after, you had these tiny bait/beer/gun/cafe's where all the hunters would go. In the early autumn we were advised to stay out of the woods or wear brightly colored clothing!!! Kalkaska is wonderful...you should scold him for NOT buying that land!

You should make your husband take you there this summer. Or better yet, in the Autumn before the first snow fall to see the leaves and rent a cabin somewhere :)

Welcome Diane, from a Kentucky farmgirl! Which part of Kentucky did you used to visit your family in the summers? I'm in the east central area. It's nice to meet you here!
