I like big ones that last a while. Prefer nothing scented unless a lite vanilla or lavendar as I am allergic to most smells. Any suggestions??

Um...a confession. I like really expensive candles...a fragrance company called Lollia that makes pure flower essence perfumes. I wear their fragrance and I buy it because it lasts and you don't need much.
The one I have burning right now is No. 025, and is called Dream. It's incredible. It was 30 dollars and is the size of a tall drink of water, maybe. But, it lasts.
I don't like candles that smell like food. Of any kind, sweets or no.

Hands down Favorite candle- Mary Jane's beeswax candles in the bell jar with the zinc lid...they are wonderful! I can't wait to try the soy candles she is making as well but I know I will always have the beeswax ones around.

I'm really partial to cranberry/cinnamon or just cranberry by itself. I had picked up this one 3-wick candle at a yard sale that I burn on occasion though I can't quite place the scent. It kind of smells like Obsession for Men.

I always pick cinnamon scented candles....I like the expensive jar candles, but any good cinnamon candle makes me swoon. I would put the wonderful honey smell of beeswax candles right up there in second place.

I love my soy candles that I make myself ;) I can make them in just about any scent I need/want and as big or small, too. plus it's clean burning and a natural and renewable source for candles. YAY!

I love candles but the obnoxious scents often trigger migraines
So anything scented in a real lavender or peppermint works well. Those fruity, flowery scents are just too much.
I like the soy based ones too. They last a long time |

Heather, every now and again, you can find them at Homegoods, TJ Maxx or Tuesday Morning (do you have those?) Probably also Marshalls or Steinmart or any of those TJ Maxx entities. Most of the time, I buy them (and the body fragrances) from a local bookseller, if you can believe it (Joseph Beth) or other boutiques. They last so long, you don't need to replace them too often, but oh wow...the scents. Subtle and transporting at the same time. I think the last one I picked up was at Tuesday Morning and still paid $15.00...

| I too love McCalls, esp their cranberry cinammon, but I have to say, the best candle I have is another very small one(like Jonni's) that cost about $20 for a small juice glass size. It is by Votivo, & is Blackberry Basil. You can light it for just a few minutes & smell it wherever in the house you go. Sadly after about 6 months, I am due for another, but I cannot complain about how long it lasted since you don't really need to light it for that long. |

| I like beeswax candles best, preferably a thick taper that will fit inside the junkyard spring I like to use as a candleholder. The last one I found was at a Russian Orthodox church, but the church has moved away. I'm thinking about getting some bulk beeswax and making my own. |

Ooooh, Lisa! That blackberry basil candle sounds divine. I've seen that brand, but can't remember where. Where did you happen upon that? And this McCalls...never heard of em...sounds good, though.

My BIL got it for me for Xmas & I think he got it in one of the shop's in Tower Place, artsy store but I can't remember its name. I have searched on line for them & you can get them on line $20 seems to be standard. It is a very intoxicating smell & now that I have had that candle, I am seeing recipes for blackberry basil crumbles & will have to try once my basil comes in. Never would have thought of that combo otherwise. |

I'll do a search for the brand and find stores that sell them...I love blackberry with anything savory right now...I'm going to make this jam from the Victory Garden for meats and fish--YUMMO

1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and thinly sliced
1 small red onion, diced
1 cinnamon stick
2 tablespoons honey
1/4 cup raw sugar

I love candles! I buy candles from a candlemaker in Lawrence Kansas, called The Waxman. I've been buying his candles since 1984 and aside from an occasional stray gift or something these are the only candles I use. They also have a store in Chicago I believe. This was a guy, who 30+years ago started making candles in his dorm room using a single burner and now has 2 stores and so forth. Great guy, great store, great candles with an enormous selection. You can order on-line even! ~julia

I have a candle that I absolutely love, but I don't know who makes it! My boyfriend got it for me while he was in Hawaii a year ago, but there's no brand tag on it, so I don't know how to find a replacement. It is the most lovely scent, though. Kind of a pure flower smell, not artificial or heavy at all, and it burns nice and slow. I have a hard time finding candles that actually smell good, too. I think I'm going to look into those spendy ones, Jonni. They sound nice. Anything with pure flower essences usually smells divine.

Careful Jodi, the whole line of products is addicting...I wear their "compact" solid perfume in a couple of different scents and people stop me on the street to ask what I'm wearing!

I love a lot of the Yankee Candle scents. Cinnamon Bun, Berry Crumble, MacIntosh, Vanilla, Pumpkin, the peppermint ones,Banana Nut Bread, etc. I use McCalls also, similar scents. I can't handle any pine or flowery scents,allergies. I try all kinds of candles and warmer tarts though. From cheaper ones to expensive.I just love the homey smells.

being the tidy tilly I am, I like the tea candles that burn in their little containers and never drip wax. They are pretty, dainty and easy and I burn one every night during dinner. There are some great scents.....my favorite is called fresh linen and is from Pier I.
I have purchased the jar candles from MaryJane, but made them all presents. That is what I do with stuff I really like - I give it away! I really should burn one soon because they are just so cute and I love the way they look.
