We paid off bills with our tax return (work at home? check! lots of mortgage insurance? check, check! two kids? heck, yeah!), so we'll be buying a new couch with the stimulus check (and maybe paying off some more bills with the leftover).

I'm taking $250 of it and buying a new sewing machine from the local sew-n-vac so the stimulus stays local. My old Mall Wart machine is otherwise on its 5th repair so no use throwing good money after bad. The remaining will either go into my IRA (boring but prudent), or *much* preferably into a half share in a local CSA if it's not too late to get in. |

Hm... this is a tough one for me. My PRACTICAL side says "save it for a rainy day." My IMPRACTICAL side says "buy more fencing, feeders, some electric tape and posts to separate the pasture so ALL the horses can share it (my mare that I've had a LONG time HATES the two old girls we brought home this winter and chases them over the fence!), buy my new breeding buck AND a new Babydoll ram (about $400-$600 or more each. OUCH!!!)....etc... "
But, the reality for ME is, my husband and I would fight over HOW to spend it, (and who gets how much), so it's probably going into a savings where NIETHER of us can touch it. Well... ok, actaully "I" can touch it, HE can't (it's the way our accounts are set up. he..he..he..), but I WON'T! What a LUCKY MAN he is to have such a GOOD and HONEST WIFE!!! (HA! HA! HA!) ~~~Tracy (seriously, practicality never killed anyone, therefore, I'M going to live FOREVER!!! Sigh...) |

I am going to take $100 and go to the local vendors, mom and pops, etc and buy from them. The rest is going into our savings.
Cheers, Heather

We are going to be using a lot of it to move us to Montana and any extra will be put aside for getting into an apartment this fall. I was really hoping to make a down payment on my horse with it but no such luck. Oh well! It's a great gift to our family.
Oh and I am going to stock up on bulk MaryJane's food before I leave too!

When will I get it? The last two digits of your social security number determine the date by which your economic stimulus payment should be deposited in your bank account or mailed to you.

A little of it will be helping with our May vacation (lots of car repairs this spring, so I didn't get to save as much as I hoped). I'm hoping that most of it will go towards home improvement, either new gutters or some new plumbing. But I may also use some to help my parents with legal bills. They are involved in a court case to (please, please) get custody of the child they have been raising. He was basically abandoned as a newborn, but both parents still claim him because they get welfare and other social services based on his existence. Poor baby! I encouraged my parents to hire a lawyer, so I feel responsible to help pay for it. I just hope it works. Well, that's more than you wanted to know! |

Here, ladies... what we should do with our IRS rebate checks, something my coworker gave me:
"How to use your IRS rebate check...As you may have heard, each of us will be getting a tax rebate check to stimulate the economy. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China. If we spend it on gasoline, it will all go to the Arabs. If we purchase a computer it will go to India. If we purchase fruits and vegetables it will go to Japan. If we purchase useless stuff it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy. We need to keep that money here in America. The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it at yard sales, since those are the only businesses still in the US!"
LOL Pity it's nearly the truth of the matter...

My hubby's half will go to pay bills. I haven't decided yet what I will do with mine. But I will use it for something fun. :)

We got a great tax return this year and are using it to put in new windows in the house (we only have 5) and to put new counter tops in my kitchen. The stimulus check will probably go into the bank in the form of a CD. We might also take a side trip to Busch Gardens when we go to my parents in June.

We plan on going "home" to a small part of Jamaica that we go to each year...it was looking like we weren't going to get to go b/c of gas, rising grocery prices, and my tuition going up..but, thanks to Pres. Bush, I can go see my Carribean gardens!

Ours is going straight to the bank to earn interest for later use. We plan to use a tiny bit of it for a weekend road trip, but other than that, we plan on earning interest to be able to buy something later and to keep in case of emergency.

Dh hasn't worked full time since February - just a day here, two days there, as his company doesn't have any work right now. Coupled with the outrageous gas prices, it's hit us pretty hard. Food prices have also exploded, but I feel like I have a little bit of control over my grocery budget. What I would LIKE to do with my half is purchase some building materials to upgrade my booth that I use to sell my children's clothes at shows. DH has give me the ok on that, but I'm the cautious one, and think I might stick it away until I know for sure he's going back to work full time.

Well my portion of the expected money will be put into savings to pay part of our property tax that's due in Dec. Hubby's will go mostly to bills and a bit of it we'll use for purchases.

Hmm, well I had big plans but haven't seen a check yet. I have the uncomfortable feeling that the IRS applied my check to what I owe them from taxes this year. sigh. I sure could have used that for bills. Who knows, maybe they'll give it to me anyway! LOL! That would be really dreamy, huh?
