I got a butter tub at the thrift the other day. Its white porcelin with a lid. I don't use margerine, so do I buy a pound block of butter and cut it up and put it in there? Do any of you use a butter tub?

As far as I know, you can still buy round butter. I have a gorgeous crystal round butter dish that my grandma used all the time.

Yes, I have seen round butter somewhere recently, but my brain refuses to dredge up any more information on the subject. I have an old gray stoneware tub,, with butter on it in blue, no lid, another one of those family treasures. it's good I'm fond of old and battered things....Nancy Jo, I put your package in the mail yesterday....Karin

Anyone else use a butter bell? 1/4# fits in the 'bell' part and it sits upside down in a crock of cold water. Keeps the butter fresh and soft to spread without melting or going rancid. I change the water every day. I actually have an extra one-if any of you would like it, email me off list and I'll draw a name this weekend for the new owner.

nancy .. couldn't you 'soften' the butter and re-mold it in a 'round' bowl that would fit nicely in your tub?

I could just cut up a pound of butter and stuff it in there. That's probably what I will do. Won't have to worry about keeping that stick of butter on the butter dish nice and neat anymore. Just wanted to see if I was missing something here with the tub idea.

Nancy Jo,
My stepdad would have been so happy at your house. He would get so upset when someone would cut the butter crooked..so of course my sister would do it just to hear him groan. Just brought back some memories of the past for me.
