Do your little ones do this? My 14-month old has started spitting out food. But it is not always because it is something he doesn't like, sometimes after he takes a bite and chews it up, he decides he wants a drink, so instead of swallowing it, he spits it out, then drinks. But usually he is not content with just spitting it out, he has to hand it to me! Or, if he is eating and decides he want a bite of something else, he spits out the first food and takes the second. Any suggestions on how to stop this? I have tried ignoring it, but he is not doing it for attention. Should I even worry about it? I want him to learn good manners so I feel like if I don't do something now it will just get worse.

No,I would not make it a big deal. Charlie did this too and I just told him No spit please. He eventually got it. He like to eat, spit, eat, spit and that lasted for about a week. This too shall pass.

Cheers,
Heather

Nora is doing this as well. I like the fact that if she has something in her mouth that _I_ don't want her to have I can say "NO! Out!" and she spits it out immediately. I am letting her do her own thing at meals right now as she is starting to hit that toddler reduction of eating stage and I don't want food to become a battle. I will start asking for better manners for sure in the next 6 months or so. I like Heather's idea of "no spit please" if you really want him to stop. I think you will need to catch him the second he does it though so he can understand what spitting is since that is probably a new word.

Let me know how it goes! Nora just finished her 13 month yesterday. So she is 13 months old, but in her 14th month....
