I'm not sure how to put this delicately - but do you use the flannel for.... um,... ALL toilet situations? I suppose it's not much different than soaking cloth diapers is it?

Yes, We use this for all toilet situations. It is just like taking care of cloth diapers.
Sometime we throw the cloth wipes that have been used for #1 in with the towel but not always.

The're GREAT!

OK, Belle, you win the award for most creative/frugal/farmgirl/natural use of a necessary item in society.
I am trying like heck to figure out if I could do this. No reason why not, I suppose, just .... hmmm. Thinking about this, trying to wrap my mind around it...thanks for the inspiration!

I think it is great that you do that. I use cloth pads and used cloth diapers...it is just one more step right? I could see doing that someday, but don't yet. Good for you. We go through tons of TP here.

I agree - good for you. I am not quite there yet, but as Jenny said - I could see doing it someday.

Thanks, Belle

I think it is a great idea. I do believe it would be difficult to get my family to buy in, however!

i have also been using cloth tp for about a year and a half. it's so much easier and uses so much less water than used in the production of the paper itself.

Do you put anything in the water that you soak in?? & what do you wash them with? I have 2 flannel sheets that were being used for the dogs that have huge holes in them, & this may be the perfect opportunity to try this( I could make about 100 TP sheets!!)

I'm all for saving money, protecting the environment, etc. I admire you for your ingenuity!! It wouldn't be any different than using cloth diapers but I still want my toilet paper.

I don't know if it's so much a phobia as a cultural thing as an american, raised to believe that it's beyond disgusting to come in close contact with our own waste, which I guess could then could become a sort of phobia... I know I'm a bit obsessive-compulsive about washing my hands after I touch anything, but that could be a good/bad thing.

I've considered using cloth, but I think I'm a ways off from being able to actually do it. And Bo would probably never go for it. I don't think he'd ever actually be ok with using and re-using cloth wipes, especially if he knew they'd end up in the same place as his "clean" laundry. I think I'd be ok with it if I lived somewhere where I didn't have to share a washer and dryer with other people...
