Today is D-day. My oldest son will be leaving O'Hara airport in Chicago today at 1pm for his 1-2 year deployment. I am so glad his father is taking him as I could not bear the 2 hour drive there without crying while carrying on a normal conversation nor could I drive home through my tears. It has been a wonderful 3 weeks he has been home on leave. Even though yesterday I was cleaning up the loft where he stay only to discover that he reverted back to the same messy child that left 5 years ago to join the Army and find his way in the world. So the next week or two will be a bit hairy for me as I am used to IMing with him at least once a day and he will not be able to get Internet for a bit. Funny how I have know about this for 6 months it still does not make it any easier. No more surprise visits home for the weekend for awhile. I do hope to visit him during his deployment got to save those pennies. With his deployment I now have two sons deployed. My middle son has just started his second tour in Iraq and my baby, the youngest son deploys in January. Please say a pray for my boys and all serving Military personal to have a safe deployments.

Got the last phone call about 11:30 and the last text just arrived. It's going to be a long 2 weeks to wait for contact. Feels like I've been cut off. How do wives and children handle this? UGH!!!!!!!

Betty Jo- hubby calls from the sailor phones once a week or if and when they hit port. Lots of emails, especially pictures and little love notes. I send off a box of goodies every 3-4 weeks. I honestly mark off the days in the morning then forget about it. I keep as busy as I can and routine can help with that. Trust me- I have had some bad moments over the past 2 weeks but hey, it's 2 weeks down.

(((HUGS)))

Cheers,
Heather

IMed with my son today. Feeling much better. Spent yesterday stripping a table and doing outside work to keep busy. It worked. He will be moving to another post today so who knows when we will talk again but I know he's on the ground and safe. It also looks like I might get to visit him in December. Seems like one of his female friends wants to take a trip so I have to start saving. She frugal so it could result in hostels and the such. What an adventure that would be for this old lady. Thanks for all your support. Mom's just get hysterical when the babies leave the nest.

Betty Jo,
Three sons that is truly something to be proud of and scared at the same time. My Grandmother had three sons all deployed at the same time during world war two. I will be thinking of your family. Wouldn't that be great if you could go visit in Korea. Yes they do revert back to their old habits when they come home, its their confort zone and they can leave their pants on the floor. HA.

Betty Jo, first let me say thank you to you, for raising not just one but THREE fine young men who are willing and able to serve their country and to fight for our freedom. Thank you.

Our 18-year-old Grandson is 5 weeks into Marine Corp boot camp right now, so we are just learning the experience of not having email or phone contact with him. That first letter we received from him is precious.

I pray your boys will stay safe and healthy during their tours, and that you are able to make that trip to visit him. The idea of a travelling adventure sounds fun!

Betty Jo,
So glad you got your phone call. I have 4 sons ages 23,26,28, and 30. 3 are Military. One is military support ( he will do anything his brothers need to help them) I currently have one in Baghdad ( Army) and I so look forward to his calls. He is working 12-14 hr days and emails are few and far between. The oldest is in Charleston Sc (USAF) and the baby in Grand forks ND ( USAF) He will be home in July and them off to Korea for a year. I would rather have Korea than Baghdad right now. I try to just think of them as being at work. Keeping busy helps. They are doing their job so we can be safe. I am proud of them and I know you are very proud of yours. Keep praying for them all!!

From one 3 blue star Mom to another.

TEDDIE

Hello to all, Teddie when your son gets to Korea maybe our boys can meet up with each other. I get to IM with my son almost everyday. I make sure to get up early to talk to him before I go to work and If I'm lucky I can catch him before he goes to work, If I get home from work early enough. I will be setting up IM at work so I can talk everyday before he goes to work. Makes it easier when I can say HI and I Love You everyday. First room mate was a huge slob and his room was very dirty and smelly. My DS is OCD when it comes to clean (at least when he's not home). SO after as he puts it "GALLONS" of bleach and scrubbing down his side of the room, he had a path to the bathroom and the bathroom floor clean so he could walk there without shoes. But after 2 weeks he was picked up by a flight crew so he gets to move rooms. An answer to his prayers, but the new room mate is even worse, smokes in the room and a very dirty slob. So DS is not very happy. He feels the Army is making him single handedly clean up the slobs. We all have our mission in life! I am planning to visit him for 2 weeks in December or January so I am working hard to save the money. Over all he is doing fine. A little lonely but fine and taking tours to see as much of the country as he can. So when Mama comes he can show me around too. He also let me know he has a package on the way for me. Can't wait to see what's in it. He's really good at knowing what Mama likes. Thank you all for your prayers and for all of you who have family serving our fine country. Whit out them we would never have this forum to support each other. Your family members our in my prayers.
