I mentioned we were getting chickens. I am in the process now of building a chicken tractor with a coop attached to it. I will be getting 4 birds. Here are my questions.
What do I do with the birds when I need to move the tractor?
Should I make the coop and the "yard" seperate pieces so they can be moved seperatly or should I join them?
Do I need a seperate coop to put them in at night or can I just use the one attached to the tractor?
Do I need to close them in at night or let them have access to the yard?
Will one nesting box be suitible for 4 hens?
How high should the roosting pole be? How much room do I need above it?
Do I have to hang the water and feeder?
Do you have any pictures of your tractors you can share?

There is a great website on keeping chickens - BackyardChickens.com
They have so much info for the beginner in their "Learning Center". And a great forum is you have any super specific questions :)

Our chicken tractors move on wheels; when it is time to move it, I drag it with a long, metal hook. The chickens know that they are supposed to walk along with it, though I still have to be careful not to run over their legs.

One of the biggest advantages of a chicken tractor is you can take them all over your farm and let them do their bug eating best. They can help manure pastures, too. And if you get hit with building permits for putting up permanent structures, you can avoid these with a chicken tractor because it's mobile.

Hi Julie,
Here is a link to one of the articles on my small farm site. It has a instructions on building a chicken tractor and materials needed. This is just one example of a chicken tractor. But it is simple. To save money you can use old pallets to build it with!
