One of my kiddos recently decided that she doesn't like grits, and won't eat them. Unfortunately, this is one of our breakfast staples and I refuse to let her refuse!

Suggestions as to yummy mix-ins? We need something new and different for the old and boring....

I don't know what a little girl would think of this, but I like tofu chunks, butter, and adobo spice in my grits. You can put shredded cheese on top, too.

I've added, sausage, cheese, tomatoes, bell pepper, onions, bacon, eggs, corned beef...any one of these topics, or a mixture of many!
The other night I made a 'grits casserole' (first one I'd ever tried) that used eggs, cheese and onions, topped with breadcrumbs. It was really good. I'll make it again for sure!

Grits in the morning,
grits at night.
With butter and salt,
they taste just right.
Grits with bacon,
grits with ham.
I'm a grit lover,
yes, i am.
Grits with breakfast,
biscuts and gravy.
If you dont like grits,
you must be crazy.
Fresh hot grits,
stick to your ribs.
That's how a southerner.
likes to live.
Grits on the side,
but not to runny.
Northerners think grits,
taste kinda funny.
But good old grits,
just cant be beat.
It's a pure down south,
southern taste treat.
So give me grits every day,
I'll eat my grits any which way.
I love grits,
thats what i said.
If you aint never ate grits,
you aint never been fed!

That poem is awesome! I want it framed in my kitchen!!!

The sausage and bell peppers sound good, too. Use them as a replacement for oatmeal (food allergy) and so sometimes I'll go sweet on her w/ bananas and honey or brown sugar because the oatmeal just looks so much better sometimes.

Personally, I like them!

With strawberry season coming right up, how about fresh strawberries and cream?

My husband likes raisins and maple syrup on oatmeal or yogurt. That might be a nice combination on grits as well, especially if you mix the raisins in while the grits are cooking so that they get big and soft.
