Meadowlark suggested I start a thread on animal communication so here it is for anyone who is interested. I've been communicating with animals my whole life. When I was a kid, I thought everybody did it. I found out later that not only does everyone not do it but most people think your elevator doesn't go to the top floor if you say you do. I've been doing it professionally for about 30 years now and I have a website, www.petreader.com.
Animals communicate in three ways: they send each other pictures, they send each other feelings, and those who live with people pick up the words they hear in the home, like kids do. So I see the pictures, feel the feelings, and hear the words they send me. I don't need to be with the animal to communicate with him/her, and I have clients all over the country. I ask that their human companion not tell me anything at all about the animal, not even what kind of animal it it is. This is my own personal fail safe. I describe the animal to the person to verify that I have the right one, and then I go through the animal's body on the inside for physical condition. I do this for two reasons: it gives the human more information about their pal, and by the time I've done it, the animal is used to me being in their heads. this is especially important on phone readings because they can't check me out in the usual way, sniffing me and so on.
I do lectures about animal communication, work with rescue organizations like New Leash on Life in Los Angeles and Best Friends in Kanab, Utah at no cost. I also find missing pets for people and have been asked by the Continuing Ed department of U of U here in Salt Lake, to teach a class in it, which I will do in October. I am also going to lecture with my husband, who taught Theoretical Physics on the post-graduate level at Cambridge University in England for 24 years, on "Science and Spirituality and how they both are saying the same things about God and the nature of the Universe" at U of Utah in November. I used to do readings on the radio and television monthly in Santa Barbara, and am also a retired Methodist minister with a speciality in teaching the Bible from the original Aramaic and Hebrew.
I would be happy to answer any questions my farmgirl sisters might have about animal communication or any of the above.
Happy Wishes! |

Hi Patricia! I am so glad you started this topic! This is so fascinating! I am sure this will be a very popular topic! I have a few questions...Do animals have souls? Is there a heaven for animals? Do their spirits linger after death? When I was searching for my elderly Lab I saw him running on the path he always used to take when I called him. He had died the day before... When I saw "him" I knew then that he was gone.
If I keep a green bough in my heart, the singing bird will come. |

Hi Meadowlark ~ Your answers are yes! yes! and yes! But it's not that simple. To understand it, you have to look at things differently.
Every soul is a part of the whole we call by various names such as God, the Universe, etc. There is no difference in the souls of people and the souls of animals. It's all energy and it's a basic law of physics that energy cannot be destroyed. It merely changes form. So when a soul decides it wants to accomplish something, learn something, have a certain experience, etc. it chooses the place it will go to have that experience and all the circumstances around it, including the vehicle it will use - for our purposes here, that would be human or animal. When the soul is finished doing what it came to do, it lets go of the body or matter and returns to the Whole as pure energy again.
As for heaven ( and hell, too for that matter), these are not references to any specific place. There is no physical place that we go to. The reference is to a state of delight, or put another way, the joy of experiencing this oneness with God. It is a delight beyond any human words can describe, but we refer to it as "heaven" in our Western Christian tradition. From a purely human standpoint, what the heck kind of Heaven could there be without our beloved pets? God loves us too much to do that to us.
Like humans, animals do linger. To them, spirit is a natural part of "life", some times you're in a body, sometimes you're not. I've had a lot of clients who have had the kind of experience you describe. Also, because their lifespans are so much shorter than ours, our dear pals are allowed to return to us, sometimes more than once. I've seen that happen countless times.
I hope this answers your questions, and if you have more, just let me know. By the way, was your lab black in color? There's one here right now asking me to say "hi" to you.
love, P

This topic makes me misty when thinking of my lab, Kaydee. She was such a special girl. Actually, she was my husbands dog but we had a special bond/relationship. Ohhh how I miss that girl.

Shannon, I am interested in hearing about your experiences and your sanctuary.
Do you guys want me to give you lessons on how to communicate with animals? It's kind of an "either you have it or you don't" kind of thing, but most people have some ability and I can teach you how to use what you have if you like.
Julia, was your lab Kaydee a golden? I'm seeing a golden with a big full tail around you. This dog has a great ear-to-ear smile.
Hugs, Patricia

Thank you so much for your comforting words Patricia... I am smiling knowing my beloved Gabriel is in his own delightful place chasing rabbits and digging to his heart's content. By the way...Gabe was a snowy white Lab. I have another 5 year old yellow Lab named Max (aka Buddy) who thinks he is a German Shepard. He is very vigilant in guarding us and our property, and very mannered ( will not poop anywhere but out in the pasture). He smiles a lot, especially if someone is holding a bottle of beer. He will just walk up to you and smile if you have a beer in hand...it is so funny! He just loves life and good times! You really are blessed Patricia with a special insight! Patricia, did you mean the spirit of a black lab? That would be Charley, a female black lab we lost 9 years ago to parvo when she was 3 months old! Oh my gosh, I have the chills, I felt SOOOO bad about her death...She was supposed to have had her shots when we bought her but she did not...and I got 1 round less than I should have and she got parvo... Oh my, I am crying now, I held her at the vet and told her how sorry I was, and that I loved her so much. I felt so guilty.

Meadowlark, yes, it was the spirit of the black lab who wanted to say "hi". Now we know who and why. Charley wants you to let go of the guilt. She said there is nothing you could have done. She said she had parvo almost from birth. It was in her and didn't manifest right away. SHE feels bad about the fact that she was presented to you as an innoculated dog. She says you wonder why she had so little time with you. This is a complicated thing that has to do with karma and her own lessons. Remember I said they are souls as old as we and they come for various purposes, too. Apparently, hers had to do with learning the value and gift of life. That's all she wants to say, but she thanks you for agreeing to help her with her lesson. (these things are agreed on spirit to spirit - your spirit and hers - she asked you to help and you said, sure) My guide says to tell you to not forget everything is as it should be. He also says you'll see Charley again rather soon. You must trust in God's love and compassion.
Now, with regard to Gabe (and he's a cutie, by the way) and all the animals who go over, many years ago my guide showed me where they go. It's a beautiful place with velvet grass and a hill in the background, blue skies and a big old oak tree in the foreground. A lot of them haven't been able to run in a while so the first thing they do is joyously tear up that hill, spin around and tear back down a few times. That's where Gabe is. What's his thing with flowers? He's showing me a bunch of flowers and just grinning and wagging his tale.

I am very intrested in this topic. The words you said to Meadowlark made me teary eyed.I seem to attract people who want to give me abused animals, and I don't feel like I always am able to do the best for them. But I would love to hear more how to communicate with them. Alicia

Alicia ~ Animals communicate in three ways: they send each other feelings, they send each other pictures, and those who live with people or who are around people a lot pick up the words that they hear in the house, just like kids do.
A lot of people already communicate to a degree with their animals and don't know it. For example, when you tell your dog, "I love you, you're such a good boy" you are speaking in words but sending the feeling of love without realizing it. Your dog receives the feeling and learns the words. Learning the words, of course, takes a lot longer than just once. The more you talk with your animal, the more words he has.
With any psychic discipline, the harder you try, the farther away it gets. It's like when you catch something out of the corner of your eye, then turn to look and it's gone. So the trick is to let go of control and let it come to you. Some people find meditation helps because it gets you into an altered state, kinda pushing away the conscious to get to the superconscious or soul level. This isn't easy but comes with practice.
Sometimes you will "hear" things, sometimes you will "see" things. Sometimes you get things in symbols (not often with me.)you have to let go of preconceived ideas about how animals think because you will be surprised at some things. And sometimes you have to figure out what they are trying to say.
Dogs, for example are pretty universally color blind, so when they show me things, sometimes I have to guess at what it is. A client called me a few years ago because her beautiful Golden Retreiver, Marilyn, wouldn't go out in the back yard at night. They had recently moved and Marilyn used to spend the nights outside in their old home. They couldn't understand it. When I asked Marilyn about it, she said she was "afraid of the big kitty" and showed me a big, fluffy black and white cat. Her human said there were no cats like that in the neighborhood. Then she said, "Oh, could it be a skunk? Marilyn's been sprayed 5 times." DUH! No wonder the dog didn't want to be outside. But what she had showed me looked very much like a big cat and she called it a kitty so...
Practice emptying your mind of distractions and asking your pet a question and see what happens. This takes practice. Make notes on what you perceive, hear or see in your mind. Let go of what you think you should perceive. Also, animals communicate while they're doing whatever it is they're doing so don't be surprised if your pet is eating or playing while you talk.
Also, before you open yourself up to any outside force, pray or use white light to protect yourself. You wouldn't open your front door and let just anybody walk in.
Let me know how you make out.
Hugs, Patricia

Ohhh, Patricia!! This is SUCH a fascinating topic! I have long wished that I could communicate with my loved ones as well, and fully believe that it is possible (though clearly I'm not getting there yet ). My mom had a wonderful experience with a communicator and her horses once, and I just find the whole thing absolutely fascinating. I have several deeply, deeply loved pets who have passed, and I've often wished that I knew if they are okay, if they know how much I love them & think of them, and if they understand how sad I feel that I wasn't there at their passing. I also have one shelter baby living with me now, who is just the biggest enigma, and I'd give anything to get inside her head & see what she's seen, and understand why she is the way she is. I know very little about her life before she came to me, and I wish I did...her experiences, like everyone else's, made her who she is today. Patricia, any further advice you may have about learning to communicate would be HUGELY appreciated. My one big hurdle right now is the fact that I have two small boys, so quiet, uninterrupted meditation time is as rare as a yellow crow's feather. I can devote about one night a week to it (hubby's away at band practice till very late, and boys are in bed). Will that be enough, or should I try to work something else out?
Again, thank you thank you thank you for starting this topic!!! |

I find this topic really interesting too. I try to spend quiet time with my animals and feel like I am somewhat in tune with them, but of course not like I know what they feel all the time..wish I did. I love how they each have their own little personality...my milk goat, Tundra, loves her "cuddle time" where I talk softly to her and give her a hug after milking, while she is still on the milk stand before I put her back in her pen with her much younger penmate "Vanna". If I dont' hug her and talk to her for a few minutes she will balk and let me know that she dosn't want to go back in yet...then she is fine after that.I try really hard to never be in such a hurry that I don't take that time for her. I am much more of a dog person than a cat person..although I love the cats..they just arn't as easy for me to understand I guess. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats and my youngest cat LOVES my husband (he is more of a cat person) and waits for him outside the bathroom door even. I miss my horse, Mick, so much. When we moved here to Utah a little over 3 years ago I had to find a new home for him since we were moving so far and he was so old. He had never lived anywhere other than calm, mild coastal Calif and I was afraid for him, but I sure miss his companionship. He was such a calm, wise old guy. (with wonderful alfalfa breath!) and I actually spent a whole lot more time just walking him or talking to him than riding him..I loved having him around for a pal. I found a good home for him, but wonder how he is sometimes. Animals sure do touch our lives don't they? I get so attached. Even to my pet turkey Earl, who died last year..I had found him a home with my sister in law when we moved here..he was bout 5 years old at the time and I didn't have a way to haul a 50 lb. turkey here...and he seemed very happy when we were back to visit. He was happiest when he was with the goats, and never liked to be alone. I got him a "wife" at one point, but she picked on him so I found her another home. He was a great turkey. I was so sad when he died. I could ramble on and on about animals...I have always had a special dog (or two or three) in my life and would hate nothing more than being without animal friends. I am amazed and delighted that they have someone like you, Patricia, that understands them so.

Wow, what a great topic, I am really enjoying all of these posts as I feel I "communicate" with my dogs everyday!!! My family thinks I am nuts but my dogs understand me!!and I usually understand them!!My daughter called Harley the other day and she jumped on the couch next to her, daughter says I just want to rub your belly and Harley immediately turns over, very obliging if it entails a belly rub!!Daughter is now a believer.

CelticCoyote (Is that a doggie who listens to Enya?), I loved hearing about your pets. I had stables full of clients in Santa Barbara when I lived in L.A. I love the horses. They're so beautiful and smart! Many of the ones I worked with in SB were owned by families and ridden by kids (mostly girls - what is it with girls and horses?) and they were very mindful of how big they are compared to the kids. One told me once "Humans are so fragile!"
People who love their animals like you do often are already communicating with them and just don't know it. WHen you tell them you love them or anything else with a lot of feeling, they get the feeling you send even if they don't understand the words. And they do pick up the words you use around the home, just like kids do.
Don't feel sad that you weren't with they when they passed. Most animals (like most people - I'm also a people medium) try to time their passing so that their human is asleep or away. They don't want them to be there because they believe they spare them pain. Also, when animals are in the wild, they usually go off to die. It's aprivate time. They don't think of it as sad. To them, it's just a transition back to spirit. And they're right!
Like you, most "parents" of rescues or adoptees are interested in what happened to the animal before they got them. It explains a lot in a lot of cases. Just as children are traumatized for life by early negative treatment, so are animals. This is one of the big three reasons people call me for readings. The other two are behavior problems and curiosity.
Meditation for any amount of time is beneficial. I suggest to help you learn how to communicate because it helps you to get into an altered state, which is very condusive to "receiving". You have to learn to put your self (ego) aside. Don't try too hard. It has to come TO you. you can't go out and grab it. The harder you try, the farther away it will get. (My cat, Topo, is playing with my keyboard and it's driving me nuts). Practice is the only way. There are no shortcuts. Trust your instincts. When it phone rings, try to intuit who it is. My husband the scientist says it's like a radio receiver. You have to tune it in right.
Please feel free to ask any questions.
hugs, Patricia

Lareyna ~ your dog does understand your words. The more you talk to them, the more words they have. The problem is they're trying to communicate in ways that we don't get. Keep it up!
By the way, I'm willing to trade a short reading for homemade canned goods or fabric squares or a real shortie for nothing if anybody is interested. And you should check out my website, www.petreader.com. I have my old newsletters archived there and they've got a lot of good info in them. Also I have a gallery of some of my clients and they're just adorable!
Also, please check out the website for Best Friends in Kanab, www.bestfriends.com. They have been sending volunteers and supplies to the hurricane stricken areas and are working miracles for the animals. It's great to read their reports.

Patricia - I can tell you are going to be overwhelmed on this topic. We all love animals so much here on this site. My husband, daughter and I had a dog for almost 19 years, and we loved him so. He expecially loved my hubby.
I drove him to the vet the day he had to be put down, and my husband met us there. We cried and cried to say good-bye. We even kept him in diapers the last three years of his life in order to keep him with us. I would love to know if he is alright now.

Arlene, Woo hoo! I'm having such a great time with all you girls! I may not have to learn to can after all! (actually we didn't' get all that much out of our garden this year except for the cukes. The tomatoes aren't getting red! ) Can (no pun intended) you list what you have and I'll tell you what I'd like and then we can figure with shipping and I'll give you my phone number and you can call me for your reading?

Hi Patricia, My sister who is a vet tecnician had some questions for you ( She is an avid animal lover and nuturer) Why are animals having such difficulty living in our environment? Why do they have difficulty living in a pastoral environment? When she visited an ancient Native American sacred site why did her Golden Retriever aquire such a severe limp for unknown reasons, almost required amputation? Her dog was not injured in any way...for 6 months the dog has had an ongoing limp. No medical explaination...

Hi Patricia, I am so glad you are here to share your gift and knowledge of communicating with our loved ones. I can see that this is a hot topic!
I have always felt a very special thing with animals, and when my baby, Bear, passed away last year, I discovered even more that I did have the ability to hear him. He was going downhill quickly after we found that he had a very aggressive form of cancer. I was so worried about him being in pain and how would I know when it was time to let him go. He was laying on the floor next to me in the laundry room, and I felt him say, "don't worry, you will know when it's time." We had given him some medication for that specific type of cancer that helped him have quality of life, so I had three months to take care of him and get both of us ready to say farewell. He left in peace and with great dignity. A few days after he passed, I was feeling so sad and crying alot when I felt him say to me, "Sadness is place you have to visit sometimes; but it's not where you live." He was a very special dog.
I had a wonderful session with an animal communicator last winter when she helped me with all three of my dogs (including Bear). It lasted for 3 hours!! Whew! It was pretty amazing. She said I did not need a communicator to help me talk to my dogs because I was so in tune with them. But I think I will call you sometime for a sesson because I think those of us who are so close to our animal friends often need special support.
Thank you again for being here. I hope we are not overwhelming you with our enthusiasm for this topic! |

Jenny (Meadowlark), Please tell me more about your sister's concerns. In what way does she feel the animals are having trouble in the enviornment. I think I know but I want to be sure. The Golden is a very sensative animal and walking through sacred ground brought up a lot of vibration from the spirits who lived there. The vibration came up from the ground itself into the feet and up the legs. The dog will carry them around until they are released. Here's what to do and this applies to anyphysical or mental illness, animal or human. It's very powerful and works when medicine fails. I'm not suggesting it be used in place of medicine/Doctors. God gave them to us for a reason. But in conjunction with, or when medicine doesn't work. Or just for well-being.
It is a law of physics that everything in the universe vibrates according to it's own density. This means that everything in the universe vibrates at different speeds. This is what makes things solid, liquid, gas, etc. Even thoughts vibrate. Every vibration has a color associated with it. The color of the vibration of peacefulness and healing is blue. This is why you see blue a lot in hospitals, prisons, anywhere where they want people to be calm. It is also why you see blue around the Blessed Mother in paintings.
What you do is visualize your pet (or anyone or earth in general depending on the healing you want to do)and visualize them surrounded by beautiful blue light. See it around them, in them, bathe them in it and at the same time, give thanks for their abundant good health. Remember, like attracts like as I have said in earlier postings. If you are thanking for something in advance, you are telling the Universe that you expect that thing to happen and the universe has to manifest it. Conversely, if you are always negative about something - "Oh, I'll never lose weight, get a boyfriend, my life stinks" that is what is manifested. As Jesus said, "It is done to you according to your beliefs." He was trying to teach us how to do this.
Do it often and for as long as you feel is necessary. You will see it work. Remember, you must believe that it is being done even as you speak, and not put it into the future, e.g. "I know the dog will be OK" as opposed to "I know this dog is healed right now." It's simple but not easy. Again, you have to work at it to get your attitude right.
Now you know how to heal. Let me know what happens.
Love, P

Susan Kate, I think from what you've told me, that you already "have it". Your Bear sounds like a wise one. By the by, was he a ruddy brown fuzzy dog? There's one that looks like that who is telling me to tell you he loves you. You were fortunate to realize that you were given time to prepare for his passing. It's been my experience over and over that no one passes before they should and that the animals always let us know when they're ready. You're right, people like us need each other to keep going. Thanks for sharing.
Blessings, P
Happy Wishes! |
