Hi, there ladies. I saw my Medical Oncologist Tuesday. I start this program Monday, April 7, 2008 with Avastin. It is an antiangiogenic. What it does is prevent new blood vessel formation to the tumor and sometimes cuts off exisiting blood vessels. Therefore, the tumor shrinks or stays the same and usually does not spread any further. I am really excited about this. These drugs are the wave of the future care and treatment of cancer. Avastin is used in colon cancer and lung cancer and ovarian cancer already with very good success.
I am still doing all my things-juicing, supplements, herbs, acupuncture, shiatsu, reiki work. I am saying my affirmations and constantly reprogramming my brain with positive thoughts. I am praying for God's healing light and energy to work and opening myself to receive his blessings.
So, now just enjoying each day. I wake up and thnak God for today and go to bed thanking him again. I am feeling really good and looking forward to our first camping trip in about three weeks. I am keeping busy sewing and starting spring cleaning. it always feels good to be working and doing and spending time with family.
Thank you all for prayers and please keep me in them still. I feel like I am about to turn the corner and all my prayers are being answered right now in front of me. I keep working on my attitude. Let all good things happen.
Hi, Ladies. I had my first treatment of Avastin today. It went really well. The worst stress was getting there (accident in front of us) and all the steps of waiting to get to the infusion-wait for nurse, access port and do bloodwork, wait for doctor, wait to be called in for treatment, wait for drug to be mixed, finally get it administered. It was a short infusion of only 30 minutes. Yeah!!! I only got a little increase in blood pressure today, not enough to worry about and a slight headache (maybe more from stress!) Hurray!!
Good news. I started researching a supplement called TM (ammonium tetrathiomolybdate) that works as an antiangiogenic. It acutally works on all THREE pathways of new blood vessel formation of tumors instead of just one (like Avastin) by lowering copper in the body. It takes three months to work its full effect as tumors can store enough copper that long. Guess where copper is stored? Liver, where my recent recurrence is located. Pretty sneaky there. Anyway, I did my searching, but I need a doctor's prescription, so tomorrow I will call both medical oncologist and family doctor to have them read up and order blood tests and prescription. I am pretty excited about this. It worked for a woman on my gyn cancer online support group. She was considered terminal, no more treatment options and is still alive and well SIX YEARS later. It is reasonable cost wise as well.
If you can, just pray for open hearts and minds with the doctors tomorrow. There are very few side effects of this, anemia being the one which is resolved by adjusting amounts of TM. I just feel like this is a good choice for me right now. Praying for doctors to read and try something a bit newer, but with good results so far.

Three things happened when I read your post. Tears came into my eyes to read positive news. I felt so light I thought my chair and I were both going to rise up off the floor. And then, the sun suddenly came out over my shoulder and lit up my office. The weather forecast for today was/is rain, rain, rain and four more inches of rain. No sun was supposed to be anywhere! Good signs for good news! :D
