Hey Ladies - Do any of you have a good Green Smoothie recipe? Also can you use a regular blender for this or do you need a special on.

THANKS FOR THE HELP!

I make about 4 gallons of smoothie at once.. I put in 8 cups of beans into the blender (I use pinto beans I think they are the blandest beans) and add enough water to make it into a bean smoothie :-) Then I pour this out- (I use 2 2 gallon containers) half into 1 container half into the next. THen I refill the blender with greens and enough water to blend up.. when it is blended I add a few bananas.. reblend.. then I pour out into the 2 containers as above. Then I stir up the green goop and pour some from each container back into the blender and add more greens with a bit of water.. blend up,pour out and mix- add some back into the blender, add more greens and water.. I keep doing this until all the greens are incorporated.. then I stir up real good and fill the blender half full of green/bean goop.. then I add as many bananas as I can fit and blend up.. I do this twice.. I mix up the banana/green/bean base... now it is time to add the other fruit. Fill up the blender with the base- about 3/4 full.. add frozen fruit- berries, mangos or a couple of oranges.. blend up and pour out.. stir the smoothies and check for sweetness. If it isn't sweet enough I refill blender again 3/4's full and add more fruit.. keep repeating until it is sweet enough. Each of my older boys drink at least a qt, I drink 2 qts, the littles drink 8 ounces at least, Eimi drinks almost a qt and Jeff drinks 1 qt. Then for lunch or dinner we drink the rest.. I have another qt and share the rest with the kids.
There you have it.. It is sloppy that is for sure.. but it is good and ends up having all of their beans for the day and fruit too.. Then when I get them to eat more beans, fruit and greens through out the day they are getting that much more.. by the way you cannot taste the beans at all- they are cooked. It is extra fiber and nutrients..

Today I got our smoothies up to 13 cups of beans rather than 8. I would have done 16 cups but ran out of cooked beans. Everyone love them.. And there is enough smoothies for us to have for breakfast and dinner. By the way- they are so filling that we don't eat anything other than our smoothies. todays greens was spinach, romaine lettuce and parsley. fruit of the day- always bananas- mangos, oranges, and mixed berries.

I know this may sound silly, but with only eating smoothies every day..and no "bulk" in the diet..aren't the stools runny? I mean there's liquid and no real bulk to move through the bowel. With everything blended and liquified.
Just curious.

Actually no, there is soooo much fiber in these smoothies. No one has experienced runny stools. We do eat 1 meal a day- beans, salad, pita sandwiches with hummus, whole grain crackers with hummus or other bean dip, carrot sticks etc... and we all have some fruit through out the day. I usually have a bite or 2 of bananas as I am making the smoothies, a slice of orange.. If the kids are hungry after their evening smoothies they have a bowl of beans or pasta. So it is a good mix..

I think since the fiber that goes into the smoothies would get liquefied in your mouth and stomach (if you chew properly) it isn't too much different than just eating the foods- except that you can combine the flavors to be more palatable if you don't like your raw veggies.

I made a "red" smoothie today. I don't have any fresh greens on hand but I mixed 2 cups of lentils with strawberries, 2 bananas, and apple juice. I added a touch of vanilla extract to mellow the taste a bit. The lentils cause a bit of "dryness" in the aftertaste but other than that I can't really tell they are there.

Before reading your posts I decided to try and throw a Green Smoothie together. I used a lot of spinach, some celery, a little water, one banana, a few strawberries, flax seeds and honey. It was DELICIOUS....

I am going to try the beans tomorrow. I keep hearing how a diet that consists of mainly fresh fruits and veggies is really good for fibromyalgia and this may help me stick to that kind of diet.

Thanks for the recipe. I hope we get some more to share

o.k. I see now where you mention actually eating a meal..in a previous post you had mentioned that the smoothies were all that were consumed. So that's why I asked.:0) thanks for answering.I was just curious.

it was this statement:"By the way- they are so filling that we don't eat anything other than our smoothies."
that caused my curiosity..:0)

I am sorry- I meant for that meal- we have them for breakfast and I have them again for dinner so does my hubby. the kiddos will devour whatever is leftover and then have beans or pasta. I eat at lunch :-)

I have heard a raw food diet is great for fibromyalgia.. Check out the Hallelujah Acres diet- it is 85% raw and the rest lowfat vegan. they have a testimonial section too. great job on the smoothies!
