While viewing Nancy's and other's beautiful embroidery work; I was wondering ; What type of material do most of you use to embroidery on? I brought some at our local quilt shop it is similar to muslin but a little better weave. My grandmothers and Mom used a fabric called Domestic I have searched over the years for it ;but no one seems to make it anymore. Just wondering what yall use? Pinkroses
I usually use a tea-dyed muslin, but really, you can use anything that has a good weight to it, you don't want it to thick or you run the risk of it being hard to go through by hand, but you don't want it too thin/gauzy..just a broadcloth is probably good to start....hopefully some more experienced then I can help you...I've only been at the embroidery for 2 years....
I use muslin, draw a design with a pencil, stitch it up and tea dye the whole thing, hang in sunshine to dry..of course here lately I've had to put it in the dryer for a few minutes to dry
Thanks, I have embroied for years and years. I am in my 50's and my deceased Grandmother taught my cousin and me to do it when we were like 7 & 8 I still love to do it; but cousin isn't into needlework and such Makes me wonder what they do without some kind of hand work My Mom is like that too. She can do it ; but she doesn't want to She is in her 70's and she is a big fan of race car thingy Can you believe that? pinkroses
