Hello Ladies, I just want to know if anyone has had any trouble with a puppy that has been neutered with them just peepeeing without any warning. He was fixed on Tuesday and came home the next day. I was not home and my husband was having trouble with him. He didnt do this before we took him. He was good about going to the door and sitting there untilwe saw him and let him out. I was just wondering if it might be a shock to his system. Just hoping he goes back to the way he was
Thanks

Hi Deborah. Well, I've been a vet tech for 7 years and I HAVE seen it. The question is, is was the dog 100% housebroken BEFORE the surgery? If he was, then my best suspicion is one of two things: 1. that he probably was kept in a cage at the vet's, and allowed to pee in the cage (i.e. he wasn't taken out regularly and thus had to pee in the cage) and that correlated to him that it was OK to do this "indoors" in his own private space. He then took this idea back to your house. OR, that there is residual discomfort from the neuter, and he feels he must do this.

I would recommend treated him as though you were housebreaking him again. Give him a firm NO when you see him doing it, and send him straight outside to finish peeing. Give him a treat reward once he's finished peeing outside, maybe this will enourage him to hold until outside.

Best of luck!

Thanks, It seems that it might be a little of both. Because he is being crate trained and before the the surgery he wouldnt go all night and now his puppy pads are soaked. He is also drinking ALOT of water...and nothing at home has changed. So when I am home I will let him out as soon as he wakes up and after he drinks water. I am not home all the time but my husband is and it is really getting to him... Thanks for your help...I will do exactly what you have suggested.
Thanks Again,
deborah

:) Sure Deborah. Sounds like the combination of water, and the fact that he might not be all the way trained AND the surgery might be a bit much. Let me know how it goes! Hugs!

sure will...he is a good boy...except for that...I found him at a truck stop...someone dumped him off and he was about 12 lbs and we have had about a 5 weeks and he has gained 14 lbs and the vet said he would be about 40-50 lbs when full grown. He is about 6 months old. They say he is a Shar-pei mix...but not sure mixed with what...any knoweldge about that breed?

Awww, good for you Deborah! You are a special soul to rescue that animal (I love folks who do that sort of thing!) Well, Shar-peis are wrinkly (is he sort of wrinkly?) and are loyal, good guard dogs, some of them are real hams--real comedians :D They are generally good dogs, some might be a little aggressive, or a little lazy...but most of the dogs we used to see at our clinic were sound dogs. Congrats on the doggie...you are both very lucky! :D

He has wrinkles on his nose...but not anywhere else...but he does have the jowls of a Shari-pe..but he is a ham...and he is a little stubborn...but listens when you are firm. I know he will be a good farm dog...but inside I prefer that..I cant stand to see dogs outside when I know they are pack animals. Thanks again for your professional help. I have read some of your blogs...You seem to be a kind and free spirit...fairies are that to me..
