Dear Creative Farmgirls,
I wasn't sure whether to post in Cleaning Up, Herbal Wisdom, or here (Try This), but after doing some searches in each one, thought I'd try here.  I've been using a combination of bay leaf, cat nip, and garlic cloves in little circles of nylon net tied with string and set inside paper cupcake holders to keep roaches out of my pantry cupboards.
This seems to work okay, but the contents really need to be replaced every three months to stay effective. Any new ideas on stuff to use or a spray to wipe down the cupboard shelves with next time I clean everything out? I read somewhere about oil of oregano being good for keeping roaches away. Thanks for any tips/suggestions!

That is a great idea.
Now does anyone have an ideas on fire ant control? We already have new ant hills in the yard and those things really leave a place when they bite/sting or whatever it is they do to you! Especially on the Grandkids tender skin.
You can never have enough friends.

I vagely recall reading somewhere that useing "Paprika" will deter ants, least I think that is what it deters,,,but not sure about those big ugly vicious fire ants...guess it's worth a try tho.

| Here is all the "roach" remedies that I know. Ants will not cross over a line of baby powder. They hate that stuff. Place marigolds in the garden to keep potatoe bugs and other critters away. Moles do not like the smell of moth balls. (Who does?) throw a couple where you think they are and they will not bother anything ever again. Susan |

My mother used to live in NYC and of course there were roaches in the building. She used boric acid, and it took care of the roach problem. They get it on themselves and then carry it home to their families. She told the manager of the building about it and he used it with great success as well. Good luck...Karin

We had fire ants in Arizona and used 'Sevin Dust' on the hills and their trails. You can get it at Lowes or Home Depot in the garden center and its even safe to use on cats and dogs to get rid of fleas and ticks
