Really sighing alot this morning as my grandaughter's first day of kindergarten began today. My daughter emailed me some pics... they will have a special dinner tonight too. I always took my daughter's picture on the first day of school, just before she went out the door, so it's nice that the tradition is continuing. Kielyn will be 5 at the end of October, so she got permission (and passed all the testing) to start early. I find it hard to believe that 5 years have passed already from the shocking phone call I received from my daughter telling me that she was pregnant! And my mixed feeling about the whole thing, being a "grandma" at 48 was not my idea of fun (at the time)... way to young for that and too soon were my initial thoughts. My, how time has conditioned me. I wouldn't trade anything for my time with these little blessed souls, and my time as Oma (my chosen name) has just been wonderful. Any other grandmas out there that feel the same?

I remember the shock of becoming a grandma too...and I was younger than you at 43!! But sure do love love love my little Kayla who goes to preschool this year (turned 3 in July) I miss her so much since she moved to Calif in January. I saw her last in April, and got to spend every single day all day with her for the two weeks we were there..which was wonderful!
My mom was a grandma at 38!! (my fault!) I am her oldest and she had me at 19 and I had my oldest, Kayla's dad, at 19 too. I can't imagine being a grandma at that age!! It dosn't look like I will get any more grandkids for awhile..all the grown sons are single now and the others have at least another 10 years before they are old enough to even move out..let alone have kids...so we will see. I have high hopes. The time does go by fast!!

I have you both beat -- I was a grandma the first time at the tender age of 35!! I adore my grandsons and wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. Being a Nana (my name of choice because at 35 I felt I was too young to be called grandma) is the best that every happened to me! The oldest grandson is a senior in high school this year and I think that's going to be as tough on me as watching one go to school for the first time. I was looking at Justin the other day and he's lost that look of a young teenager and now looks like a young man.

Clare -- I love Oma! That would be my second choice for a grandma name.

Being a grandma is one of the biggest blessings of living! Who cares how old you are? And who cares if being a "grandma" is not the essence of youth? I am over that!!!!!!!!! I love being a grandma, and if anything, it has made me feel younger, like a mom again! I have my seocnd one on the way, and I hope I can take care of both at one time! :)

Love being momma number two.
