Nora has been saying Mama and Dada (sometimes Yaya instead of Dada) for a while now. She jibber jabbers in her own language all the time, but this morning she was holding one of her dresses that is a rich red color. I pointed to it and said "red". She looked up at me and said "Reh!" So I cheered and clapped and pointed to it again and said "Red!" and she looked at it and said "Reh!"
So I picked up a block from the floor that also happened to be red and gave it to her and said "Red!". It took a few repetitions of me telling her that was red too before she said "Reh!"
Oh I am so excited! She is going to be talking my ear off before I know it and I will be wondering why I ever wanted her to learn to talk so much!
My son's first word was cookie. (big surprise there...he is the original cookie monster) My daughter's first word was NO!!!! A word she heard a lot when she was younger.
Just wait until she says what she thinks is the word. My friend's little sweetie pie, calls me "Kake" instead of Kate. I'll answer to it too.
My daughter said "Tony-nails" for toenails, and "boyzes" for boys. Josh said "Lougurt and Lellow" for yougurt and yellow.
Ahhhh, they grow so fast, this was fun walking down memory lane. Enjoy her now, while her words are still sweet. They get older and turn ornery and sullen. The joys of parenting. LOL

My daughter wasn't talking by the time she was 12 months. Not even babbling. At 18 months she had 20 words that only her dad and I could understand. We had a word journal that we kept for her to let her speech therapist know what words she was saying and the way that she said them. And as her language skills grew so did the entries into the journal. I just found the journal the other day and it makes me smile to know that she is talking up a storm and having an actual conversation. They "experts" that we went to when she was diagnosed with autism said not to be too optimistic about her ever speaking. Hah! She sure fooled them.

awww Urbanchick, Im so glad your baby girl has come so far! It definatly is a blessing to hear those sweet babies talking to us like they know what they're talkin' about : ) Just a cute lil tid-bit...I was admiring one of my friends new born baby girls and I walked up to her and said " well hi there precious!" and my little Abby leaned over the infant and said as clear as day " HI PRECIOUS" in the sweetest little gentle voice! We all laughed so hard and she now calls everybody "precious"...it really is cute!

Sullivan says "Ah ah!" which we say a lot instead of no-no. He also says bye-bye and dada. He's said mama a couple times, but now he just laughs and says dada. I think my husband taught him to do that. Tate did the same thing. Stinkers.
