The Earth Liberation Front has claimed responsibility for setting an entire "Street of Dreams" on fire in a community east of Seattle. These home were supposed to showcase "green building" methods, an each home was in the $2 million range. Three homes were burnt to the ground, one extensively damaged and in the last one, the incidiary device failed to ignite. Total damage to the four homes was $7 million. The ironic thing, if ELF really was to blame, is that the builders will rebuild these homes, necessitating more environmental impact - in the form of more timber cut, more fuel used, etc. What in the world are these people thinking?

I saw something about this on the news last night, Sherri. They made it sound like these homes were just built as McMansions for the rich. So they were showcasing 'green building'?? There is no excuse for this. What if they had killed someone or the fire had spread to a populated area?

Was it in Bellevue or Issaquah Sherri?

People are so foolish. What exactly did they accomplish? The homes will be re-built and their own lives are now in ruins for criminal behavior. Not smart.

I just heard some more on the news about this. Some neighbors to the area (the street was unoccupied) are now saying that even though this is showcasing the very latest in green building, it's WHERE they were built that has caused controversy in the past. I guess there have been objections to this project from the inception - it is built in heavy woods, near a stream and just the fact that they built in that area was detrimental to the environment. Let me see if I can find a link so you can see just what it looks like....

http://www.kirotv.com/index.html If you click on this, then click on the SLIDE SHOW, fast forward through the slide show to pictures 18, 19, 20 you will see the area that they built these homes in. Still no excuse for an act of terrorism though.

Ok, Sherri, thanks for that info. That makes it clearer, but inexcusable, nevertheless.
