I always hate using commercial dog shampoos on my dog. I can't help wondering what nasty chemicals they use to "hide" the dog odor. So since I make my own soap, I have started to designate one bar as the "dog" bar.

The homemade soap doesn't seem to irritate her skin at all and since I know what I put into it, I don't have to worry about what she might be absorbing through her skin or what I am exposing her her too in other ways.

I suppose a wash of baking soda would be effective as well.

What do you wash your dog with?

Shaklee's Basic H. It is the green cleaner that was on Oprah's favorites show. Great cleaner, PH balanced, doesn't hurt their skin, neutral odor, & eliminates even the worst stinkies!

I do not like the stuff in some of those soaps either. So I had been using some all natural facial bars that someone gave me. I do NOT EVER use soap on my face, and so far it has seemed to be mild and gentle even on the puppies. My male schnauzers dry skin is even better, LOL. I am not sure what I will do when I run out of this. I had better find something. I think I may try Hick Chicks Dog soap and see how that works on my schnuazers.

I have been using baby shampoo, but I like the baking soda and acv on my hair, so I'm going to try it on the dogs.

Good topic...of course I make soap for us, so now I make one for the dogs too *U* and I guess I could use it on the horses if I wanted...but to be honest, the farm dogs get into manure or something dead and they get a cold hose! *U*
THey are big and the smell is too, so they just get sprayed out in the backyard.

The soap I make is more geared toward a smaller, more manageable dog like my schnazer. I used rosemary, tea tree, peppermint, and lavender essential oils becasu they are said to deter flease, lice, and ticks. I think lice don't die that easily, but I'm hopeful for the flea and tick part- I had a huge tick problem her when we first moved here. I would pick up to 20 ticks a day off each dog. When my chickens came and free ranged though, of courses the tick population disappeared *U*

I had been using just commercial dog shampoo on Lizzie but she seemed to be scratching a lot. We took her to the Vet and they recommended that we use Baby Shampoo and it's seemed to help and she has that nice baby scent.

Ingredients are aloe vera juice essence of lavender wheat protein rose hip oil kukui nut oil resemary extract and a bunch of other botanicals

I take this when my dog is being boarded and have them grom her w/ it instead of the chemical laden stuff

And seriously, I do use it w/ grear results!

Look it up and try!

I use Watkins Dog Shampoo on our dogs, but if I don't have it, I use glycerin bar soap on them.

My Scottie has very dry skin, so i don't bathe him a lot unless he gets muddy outside, or just plain stinky.
I use Mrs. Meyer's Oatmeal pet shampoo.
It's natural, smells great, and a little goes a long way.
In between real baths, I use that stuff you spray on him-a dry bath of some sort, which is also natural.

Don't miss out on a blessing, just because it isn't packaged the way you expected. ~MaryJo Copeland
