I have several small plum trees here and there on my property. I just picked all that had not fallen to the ground and am planning to make jam with them (this will be my first canning attempt in a long, long time).

My question is, what are they? They are smallish trees, although I am sure at least one of them is mature, they produce a small fruit that grows almost exclusively at the trunk and is a pretty rosey/peachy color. The flesh is very tasty but the skin is extremely bitter. My son and I have taken to sucking the tender flesh out of the skin and tossing the skins aside when we eat them.

Any guesses?
