I was looking at some incubator listings on ebay, like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-GQF-Model-2362N-Turbo-Fan-Hatching-Egg-Incubator_W0QQitemZ270213414026QQihZ017QQcategoryZ66905QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/GQF-1602n-Hova-Bator-Incubator-1611-Turner-Postpaid_W0QQitemZ130200096023QQihZ003QQcategoryZ66905QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Is there anything I should know about these? Because the price doesn't seem that bad to me. We have more demand for eggs than we have eggs, and I'd like to add some Marans and Barnevelders, maybe try some actual Araucanas or Americaunas as opposed to the Easter Eggers we have right now.

What do the farmgirls think?

Sarah- The biggest thing that I think is important, in my experience with incubators, is to buy an insulated one- especially if the incubator is going to be in a garage, shed or basement. Otherwise you will spend so much more money in electricity just trying to keep it warm.

Sounds like a fun project though!

I have something similar to those and have had good luck with it. I don't even have a fan or automatic turner, but my hatch rate was 85-90%, which is awesome. It's fun to try- I love when they are getting ready to hatch and you can hear them peeping, and then watch them peck their way out. It's cheap entertainment! I'm thinking about getting some Easter Eggers this spring. I had thought about Americaunas, but it's so hard to actually find some that really are Americaunas and not Easter Eggers.

OK, so can someone talk me down (or up)? Today was day 21, and one of the eggs was moving, but I don't hear cheeping, I don't see pip holes, and I'm just sort of worried. The power went off last Friday for maybe an hour and a half, and I'm afraid it messed something up. I read stuff online, and I get wound up about whether I've had the humidity right...I want my chicks to be OK!

I have 2 still air incubators and there are a few eggs moving around and the incubators seem to be doing a great job! I think I paid $40 for each of the at Fleet Farm. we manually turn the eggs a few times daily.

I used an automatic turner, but I took it out on day 18. Still no holes this morning, no peeping. It's day 22. How normal is this?

Well how are things going? I think they should be ok, will be any minute now I'll bet. As long as they've been turned good they should be fine. Goodluck and let us know how things come out.

Well, all of a sudden, three days late, we have two chicks and another pip-hole we're watching for motion! Both the hatchlings are Barnevelders. Fingers crossed for more!
