we are exploring the possibility of have one or maybe a pair, as a houseguest, for fibre and for little olivia and deven to have as a companion. our plan would be to have it live in the craftroom and be house trained and hopefully to have a wonderful life. if anyone has advice info on anytype of fibre rabbit i would appreiciate learning, we are in the gathering info stage, and of course if we can purchase a bunny from a farmgirl all the better.

well, sherri, so far my spinnin is battin a zero. but i do think the bunnies would be a great addition to our farm and i think olivia and deven are a great age to get involved and learn about the care of the animals and how they fit into the scheme of things.
olivia is a super little egg collector and helps feed all the animals and put up and take out the goats, but none of these are their animals and i would like them to feel more like these animals are theirs, but i always have to do a lot of research before we have new animals, cause when it is not a good fit we all take it hard.

I love angoras and used to have as many as 28 before we moved here 5 and 1/2 years ago. Now I just have one. They are really nice as pets...calmer even than most rabbits are..from all the handling and grooming. There are a couple wonderful angora rabbit books out there..Completly Angora being the best one for sure. THey do take alot more care than average rabbits and are a little more fragile..but are such sweet pets. There are several different types within angoras...German,or Giant, French , English, or Satin. I have had all but Satin at one time or another and prefer french..but that is just me. I would check with breeders in your area..go to a rabbit show or two and don't buy cheap ones..there is a HUGE difference.
That being said..I bought a cheap one when we moved here just cuz I missed having them..and he is just awful..the meanest most awful guy ever..and he is nearly 6 years old now..no one can hold him or groom him at all and his coat is like cotton..awful. I blew it totally and now I will have this mean thing until he dies..which I am sure will be a long long time..haha. BUT I have never had a bad one before and I knew better than to buy a $10 angora from a kid..don't do it!! THey are all so cute and hard to resist as babies..but this one..ugh!! My other angoras in the past were all sweet and kid friendly. Also be sure to get the house rabbit book ..I bet if you look up rabbits or angora rabbits on Amazon.com you will find alot of useful info!! Good luck!!

thanks so mucn aunt jenny, i love when you respond to a thread cause i have really learned to trust your info. i'm afraid i might be tempted to buy a cheap one too, cause, well....you know the dreaded budget, but now i know there really could be a difference.
i have tried to do a computer search but wasnt real successful. i dont know of any angora bunny breeders in our area, it could be the heat, and well alot of the folks i meet around here really focus on meat animals, nothing wrong with that for some folks, and as i've said before, i NEVER met a hamburger i didnt like, i am definitely in the carvivoure tribe and have the stint and the angiograms to prove it, but i do not want to raise animals that i have to kill for money. we dont even eat our chickens, just the eggs, they all die of old age. anyway, i am continuing to do some research and appreciate the books mentioned, i am making a trip to the library next week. also wish you made house calls, i would love to get a spinning lesson from you!

You are so sweet Fran!! Hey..check with any 4H leaders you know..they would know a rabbit group leader who would know maybe who to contact. Meanwhile..there is ARBA..they have a website I am sure... Angora Rabbit Breeder Association..and I know there is an angora one too..danged if I can remember it. If Bama Suzy checks in she may be some help that way...she raises angoras in Alabama..but her husband is ill and she hasn't been online much the past week or so.

the 4h idea is a great one, thanks. i have tried the arba website but i had trouble navigating it and getting much info, problaby just me. i will wait and see when bama suzy posts and then email her. hope her husband is okay.

How the bunnies doing? Bonnie and the buck? (Sorry, I can't remember his name for anything...)
Lucien is doing well and will probably be the main buck servicing the does this year - he has taken it upon himself to spread the joy to the whole group! And it helps that my guys don't seem to be very interested in the gals. We tried giving Luc his own herd but he busted out the heavy duty gate to get to the others.
