This is kinda of an oxymoron from the paper over in Lexington because the city has been in trouble with the EPA over the sewer system, but is in the works of repairing it:
Lexington makes top 25 in ‘green cities’ ranking By Andy Mead http://www.kentucky.com/181/story/321760.html
Lexington has been ranked as the nation’s 25th Greenest City by Popular Science magazine.
The city ranked No. 1 in a category called “green living.” The magazine mentioned that “Lexingtonians recycle everything from surplus electronics to scrap metal.”
In a survey conducted by the magazine, city residents listed the environment as their third most important concern. That followed concern about employment and public safety, and it was the highest ranking for the environment in the magazine’s survey.
Cities also were judged on electricity (with points for renewable sources), transportation (points for mass transit, carpooling and air quality) and green living (points for certified green buildings, as well as open space).
The greenest of the 50 cities that make the magazine’s list was Portland, Ore.; followed by San Francisco and Boston.
Half of Portland’s power comes from renewable resources, the magazine said. A quarter of the city’s work force bikes, carpools or uses public transportation.
For details on the study, including a listing of the 50 greenest cities, go to www.popsci.com/environment/article/2008-02/americas-50-greenest-cities?page=1#.

That's great, Jessica! I can see it, really, however NOT when I'm on Man o War :) I also noted that Louisville was among the 8 most underrated cities in the US a few days ago. Very cool!
Farmgirl Sister #80, thanks to a very special farmgirl from the Bluegrass..."She was built like a watch, a study in balance ... with a neck and head so refined, like a drawing by DaVinci"... NY Newsday sportswriter Bill Nack describing filly, Ruffian. http://www.buyhandmade.org/ |
