When I was in my 20's I loved making stuffed dolls and animals. Yesterday when I was looking for felting book I came across a book call Kinder-Dolls: A Waldorf Doll Making Handbook. It was very expensive for a used book and after research I could not find it any where else to purchase it from new or used. It had great reviews from others that owned it. I was wondering if anyone else out there has it and if it is really as good as the reviews say. Any web sites I should look at that would explain these dolls better. Does anyone out there make them? Thanks for the info.

Waldorf style dolls are so wonderful- none of the poly fiber fill, all natural materials and the results are always magical. Kinderdolls is a lovely book, though I learned to make waldorf-style dolls by getting a 16 inch doll kit from magic cabin for about $25 and if I recall it included everything- you might check there. Another resource is Weir Dolls, they ship quickly and the materials are what waldorf schools use for their doll making. They have the doll skin fabric, wool, natural looking embroidery thread and velour for outfits, boucle yarn for hair- but really a kit might be a better way to try it out. | Kinder-dolls is the original name for a book now called "Making Waldorf Dolls." It too is fairly expensive. It's probably one of the best for technique, but there are no photographs- only hand-drawings. See if you can find this one cheaper: "Baby Dolls and their clothes." Lots of color pictures and patterns for dolls and their clothes (duh). YOu can get it used around $15. I like it better for inspiration, and the dolls are pretty much the same throughout the different books. |

Here is the website for a lady here in the NW who sells the waldorf dolls as kits, or ready made. I talked to her on the phone a couple months ago because I wanted to put together a workshop for my MOPs group (not enough ladies were interested unfortunately). Joy was delightful to visit with.
I would like to purchase a boy doll and baby for my 2 yo ds as we are expecting a second child this summer. It would be so nice to give him a special present like that so he can care for a baby too. |

Joy is great -- she does doll workshops around here and is happy to chat with you on the phone about doll-making. Highly recommended.
I called her to try to order her wig-making pamphlet and she just explained over the telephone how to crochet the wig cap and wouldn't sell me the book!
