Ok, I can not believe I bought this,,,, I was at the Ben Franklin store in the next town over and spotted this "flower shaped yoyo maker" so I just had to buy it....'can't believe I did but oh well....anyways along with it I found some cute pattern ideas for yoyo "art". One is a pattern for a wine bottle tote covered in yoyos. another one is a cute little beach/market tote bag, again covered in yoyos and then there was a Tank Top adorned w/ yoyos around the neck and last but not least a cute little drawstring handbag adorned w/yoyos.... So now I can start using up the gazillions of yoyos that I have stashed in my yoyo drawer! I am heading over to the: www.clover-usa.com web site next to see what other free patterns they might have for yoyos. tata! >^..^< Happiness is being a katmom. mjf#72 Sisters on the Fly#472 www.katmom4.blogspot.com www.katmom44.blinkz.com

I have the flower shaped yoyo maker, Grace, and I love it! It makes such cute little yoyos. I have tons of yoyos stashed everywhere, too. I have made a couple yoyo dolls (one for my niece and one for Aria), a yoyo doily with tiny yoyos for Julie (willowtreecreek) for Secret Santa, and I've got a quilt in progress for myself that will probably take ages to finish. I am totally addicted to yoyos! |

I had thought the same thing, Bonne, so it must not be that silly! The flower ones I think would be pretty difficult to make without a yoyo maker, certainly you wouldn't be able to make them as quickly. I love the extra small round one, too. I used it to make the yoyos on my Farmgirl Sisterhood and Bees Without Borders badges. My 3-year-old even knows what a yoyo is- it's so cute when he says it! |

I bought one of those last fall when I was at a quilt retreat, they work very well and certainly it is much easier to use that than try to manipulate the yoyos. I keep meaning to make some yoyos. I'm very impressed to hear someone has made two quilts out of them , they are so cute . I remember seeing a picture of an edging made for a shelf, on a hutch or something, it looked great. Always meant to make one of those as well. Keep warm, Karin |

I have to laugh, because I was "one of those" who likes to make yoyos by hand, but I have failed miserablly trying to make the heart shape & flower shape so I have resorted to the Clover tool. I can zip through the circles, I can almost do 'em in my sleep. lol! I saw a pair of cute curtains in a store that had the hem trimmed in yoyos. I made a little flag (on my blog) and I have even decorated a pair of thong slippers w/yoyos. I have seen yoyo quilts in cataloges(bloody expensive) not to mention pillows & lamp shades decorated w/yoyos. the ideas are sooo endless. I love using other wise useless scraps of fabric for yoyos. I also use the yoyos to make hair barretts, refridg magnets and even to use in place of ribbons on packages. I plan to make a yoyo wine tote in the really near future. But now I am off for a cup of coffee.... ooooh! wait yoyo flash,,,, how about yoyo coasters,,,hmmmm! or placemats...oh & then to decorate the end of cute tea towels..... oh so many ideas! need my java fix.... haha! >^..^< Happiness is being a katmom. mjf#72 Sisters on the Fly#472 www.katmom4.blogspot.com www.katmom44.blinkz.com

I was just at JoAnn Fabrics today and saw the wine bag with yoyo's all over it! That's funny, that you bought that. I was there trying find white material for the background of the spring flower quilt blocks we're doing and happened to see that the material I ran out of on my other quilt was there, yay!! So I bought more of every material in my quilt since now of course, it's all 30% off! I"ve never made a yoyo before, are they easy??
I'd rather live my life with a "full plate" than an empty one. Life is not a rehearsal... eat up! |

Denise, I bought mine @ the Ben Franklin Store $5.49, but I have seen them at JoAnns Fabric/Craft as well. I saw them by the needle punch kits.
Lisa, they are soooooooooo easy to make. I use a CD for my circle templete just trace on the back side of the fabric, stack 3-4 layers of fabric & cut out the circles. You can fold over 1/4" & iron the fabric & then sew a simple running stitch real close to the edge the pull your thread to gather up your fabric into the yoyo shape.( I don't iron the edge I just press it 'tween my fingers & stitch). There are so many site for clearer instructions, or I think(can't remember) the www.clover-usa site might have instructions? trust me once you start making yoyos you'll get addicted. In fact if your search back about summer of 2007 in the stitching thread you'll should come across our yoyo swaps & crafting ideas. Give it a try you'll have fun with all the crafty ideas.[:D]
Bev, how cute! I love the yoyo Dragon.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find one. I've been doing them by hand, is this easier or quicker?

I find it easier, for the simple fact that you don't have to cut out your fabric beforehand, which I hate. :) You can just stick the fabric in the yoyo maker and cut around it. Plus, your stitches are guaranteed to be even and you can pull it nice and tight. |
